I don't know what you think of when you talk about pMusic and DB, since a database can be everything from the smallest ans simplest stuff to what we see in systems that tracks all actions into its DB.

pMusic has its own DB to keep info of file-info, tags, musicbrainz-IDs, albumart/Lyrics-URL, stream-info and rating. You can see the content in 'MusicSources>My music'.

This gives several advantages
- Fast search for file, tags,...
- Find tracks belonging to one album
- Rating based on your play-habbits
- Smart-add
- Quick view of Track info
- Quick grabbing of lyrics/albumart based on URL
- ...

This DB is homemade, and is sure not as good/fast as the pro DB's. But it is suited to fit pMusic's need, and atm, I can't see the huge benefit of using an external DB.

DBs yours or otherwise: Think "tables". And think reference/filter extensions that map no matter which DB pMusic might be designed for. And think multimedia as all of what we do is moving forward.

Its NOT a requirement to change anything, its just some ideas tossed for review and thought. In fact, the pMusic DB is adequate for what it does and continues to deliver, as you show.

pMusic, as I expressed, is what I use, thanks to the manner provided via the distro developers in their PUP distro and thanks to you. (of course, you already know this)

Hello Zigbert, sorry to bother you if this has already been covered in your pmusic thread, I'm using pmusic 428 in Lucid 5.28.6 on a Thinkpad T61.

I wonder if there is a way to create the option to record the whole of a streaming radio programme? I have tried using the Hits Grabber after un-ticking the option to delete tracks less than 1MB but then it simply skips continuously and doesn't record anything.

Quite often I would like to save/record an entire radio programme. I realise there are other ways to do this with Puppy linux but I don't have much success in that direction. :?

many thanks for your time and for pmusic.

1.) Add URL to playlist
2.) Menu>PlayQueue>Export

That was surprisingly easy, even for me. :D Many thanks.

Not sure if you're aware, but I tried Music Sorces>Radio Stations>Setup>Install, and get a pop-up, No connection to server.

Hi @Zigbert. Noticed from your last pic that you are testing-using a 4.3.0 version. Is that alpha/beta/posted somewhere?

Seems that server is down. Either wait and try again, or you can build the index yourself from the Advanced tab.

No, I have not uploaded anything yet. Still a lot of work to be done before anything valuable. Are there any specific issues/features you are looking for?

Hi Zigbert,

Just a heads-up... it seems the meownplanet.net link for pMusic is down? I've tried a few times over the course of the day, to no avail.

Clementine is more than I want and not sure Radio Tray is enough. I LIKE the list on pmusic. Tho over half only tells you an area radio station, it's sometimes fun to just TRY it.

Welcome to the forum!

The radio station index is generated from http://www.radiosure.com/stations/. Everyone can add/improve urls there.

Hi Zigbert, I'm an absolute beginner with pmusic. Out of curiosity for your work I installed the 4.3.1 pet on FatDog64 631. This is the command-line output that I got:

Code: Select all

I have fixed the bug related your terminal output (thank you), but I don't think this is related why you can't open pMusic.

Can you help me bit more? pMusic offer an option to dump gui-code, that you can attach here so I can test it. like this...

Code: Select all

pmusic --dump-gtk > /root/pmusic_gtk
All options are listed by pmusic -h
