Anyone tried the many games posted here under 4.2?

Just upgraded two laptops and a desktop from 4.12 to 4.2

OK, the children have a more specific immediate request - SuperTux.

I have at least 4 versions - which would be best to install under 4.2, please?

supertux-0.1.3-i486-1.tgz
supertux-0.1.3.x86.package...
supertux-0.3.0-nogl-0.1.4502.x86.package...
SuperTux.pet

The laptop I'd most like it to run on is an old Panasonic Toughbook CF-27 which is WAAAY faster under 4.2 but hs limited resources: mobile Pentium MMX (System Info says 265.27MHz 531.16 BogoMips), 158MB ram

SuperTux.pet should work if you have SDL installed
Ver, 0.3 is developmental still, I did manage to run 0.3.1 from debian packages, but it needed lots of dependencies. Still, once installed it worked smooth.

I have 5 SDL's.

One includes the word "image" in the name, two include "mixer" in the names.

There is one simple SDL.pet, is that the one I should use?

I use this one:
SDL-1.2.9.pet

OK, now I will have 6 of them! :-)

Thanks, will grab that and give it and the SuperTux.pet a try together.

It worked! Thanks!

"OpenGL not supported" so no sound ...

Fine with me as it gets old real fast but if they put on headphones they prefer the sounds.

You should have sound I think, check if you can turn it on in options.

Our youngest is asking for SuperTux 2, he says it is a lot more fun (he has played it online), is that available?

The "opengl" error came up in Options - the Sound icon is greyed-out and unavailable due to that problem.

For opengl you need to install xorg dri from petget manager, and for supertux 2, well, I managed to run it on puppy from converted debian packages, but it had many dependencies, if I manage to pack all in sfs or couple or dotpets and upload it I'll post it here but I don't promise anything :)

PETget package manager kept freezing my old Panasonic Toughbook CF-27 so I went to a network cable.

Got into PETget but there is no listing that begins with xorg or dri

must be at the very end of the list
xorg_xorg_full_dri-7.3
or here's direct link:
xorg dri for puppy 4.x

Nope, it is not in there in the Puppy 4 area - perhaps it needs to be added?

Thanks for the direct link!

All sorts of hassle for some reason trying to get this xorg dri loaded but finally succeeded.

Just tried it and no impact on the opengl error message in Options is the same.

Then I rebooted and now am stuck in an xorg loop - cannot get into x. :-(

Seems that the xorg dri app broke my xorg install in 4.2

Weird, did you have some propietary graphic drivers installed?
Can you run xorgwizard from prompt?
Can you start Xvesa at least?

@ Edoc

After all this while keeping up with your SuperTux problems, I'm really puzzled. At first put all your problems down to the Puppy 4xx series, but I've upgraded since and had no problem with SuperTux. (Certainly no problem with sound-I've heard it many times ring across the house :) )

That plain SDL.pet is actually a combination all Ttuuxxx'x SDL packages, and MU's Doom pup. I combined them together because a) it was tiresome to install all Ttuuxxx''s pets manually, and b) because some programs required dependencies only found in MU's pup.

The plain SuperTux.pet is the one I normally use, haven't tried Ttuuxxx's or anyone else's pet.

Well, I wish you all the best and hope you have success trying again :D

Is Trackballs available for Puppy?

Perhaps easiest to import (if not already a .PET) for Lucid 5.01 since it is a Ubuntu-derivative?

..for the 'usual' 1.4(?) version

Mostly color-outlines for bosses, enemies, shots and title - I find it's a bit easier to use these. Anyhow, a change to the look.

Extract to /usr/share/games/xsoldier dir (overwrites some originals, so backup the dir if you want).

Or pull the oem files from /initrd/pup_ro2/usr/share/games/xsoldier to switch back if desired.

<font#>.xpm colors changed from the original white as well, click to the left of palette color in mtpaint's list to bring up the palette editor for your own choice of font colors.
