Upup Raring 3.9.9

Hi pemasu,

Your latest Upup Raring is great, it's worked well for everything I've tried. Bibletime still doesn't work properly, however Xiphos does. That bug is caused by Ubuntu Raring though, not your Upup. For Xiphos to have any resources to use, Bibletime still has to be installed.

Thanks for another super distribution. :D

Quickpet has now proprietary graphics drivers, kernel source and devx sfs tabs updated. Just use quickpet update button inside the app.

666philb has done splendid job by keeping quickpet uptodate. Thanks !!!

Cheers.

Hi pemasu,

Your new NVIDIA driver worked perfectly for me, just had to reboot, nothing else.

I tried VirtualBox, however it gives this error message although it does have the kernel source loaded:

Code: Select all

# VirtualBox
WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module
available for the current kernel (3.9.9-upup) or it failed to
load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by

           sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.
VirtualBox: supR3HardenedMainGetTrustedMain: dlopen("/opt/VirtualBox/VirtualBox.so",) failed: libpng14.so.14: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Video Problem/System Speed

I've had problems with video distortion and system freezes with virtaully all of the recent Raring releases.

I believe the problem is that the kernel does not have the driver that supports my video chip. Slacko works fine and reports the card as

[/code]VGA controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Device [8086:0162] (rev 09)

Code: Select all

Raring reports the card as
VGA controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller [8086:0162] (rev 09)

Code: Select all

Puppy Sysinfo attached

Thanks in advance

jim1911. Shinobars virtualbox does not seem to be compatible with 3.9.9 kernel. I downloaded Virtuabox from official site and the kernel modules compiled ok. So my kernel headers or kernel source is not defective. I think it would need Shinobar`s input to check what is wrong with the adapted scripts inside that Virtualbox sfs.

I assume you used quickpet for installation. Correct me if I am wrong. I had to ready between lines

virtualbox-4.2.2-raring_k3.9.9.sfs has been uploaded to the repo. Not to the quickpet. Use first page link to find the repo url.

Someone who really uses virtualbox, could test my upload.

Cheers.

Tlchost. You should create system reports which have xorg log and dmesg log. You could use for example Pup-Sysinfo. I thing that the problem lies with xorg drivers. There have been several kernels between Raring Puppy - Upup Raring development, the problem stays and xorg drivers have been same.

tlchost or other with troublesome intel graphics versions.
I compiled from source latest intel xorg driver.

http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_pack ... raring.pet

Restart X...or better....reboot after installation.

There have been several bug reports from Intel [8086:0162] in the raring and also in the other distro bug pages. One solution has been to update the driver. I dont know the right configure options so I compiled with the default ones. It might need tuning in that.

Anyway feedback would be highly appreciated.

My newest desktop has intel graphics and it didn't work worth beans, installed your pet and it's working fine now.

Great. and thank you of the quick feedback. I believe that the problem lies with intel sandy bridge architecture and with the ubuntu raring xorg intel driver compile choices.

I am pretty sure you both have new enough comps to have sandy bridge architecture under the hood.

Now...it would be important that the default compile time configuration choices work with older intel graphics. new sandy bridge has brought sna acceleration as default and it should be downgrade compatible.

Hi pemasu,

Since the inception of the 3.5 (and greater) kernel in Upup Precise and Upup Raring, my Intel i5 Sandybridge PC would not boot to the standard JWM desktop, but worked great when booting to an Openbox desktop.

With your intel-2.21.12-raring.pet, my Sandybridge PC now enjoys booting to JWM in Upup Raring.

Thanks!

Upup-Raring-3.9.9

I must say... you have one dandy program here!!!

Every app that I use and installed works OOTB and setup without issue including my HP 1050 all-in-one printer/scanner.

Only issue found was in Quickpet... I tried to install the Google Earth from there... it installed fine but on run, it informed me that I needed to upgrade my graphics card so I installed Google_Earth-6.0.3.2197-luki.sfs (from .sfs on the fly) and it works very well. Might be a newer version in Quickpet why it wouldn't work???

Anyway... all is working great with no problems and it was really a pleasure testing this build!

One thing I might add... you sure do have WiFi down pat! I haven't had a drop with it since way way back in your early builds, from Exprimo up, it's been just great.

Very nice job... you'll have a hard-roll topping this one  enjoy your summer fun.

Opps... almost forgot the screen-shot.

Anyone insstall Skype, either .pet or .sfs? Would appreciate a link to one that works with Raring 3.9.9

thanks

tlchost. Skype + packaged Ubuntu Qt, which Skype needs, are found from Quickpet.

Sszindian. I willl check GoogleEarth at some time. I think I tested it and it worked for me, but...it was previous Upup Raring build. Something could have changed.

this is a winner Pemasu

Just saying thanks. I'd gotten used to Barry's Buntu but this might be better!

The Firefox pet and all dependencies worked perfectly.

Don't you know... I put it on my little site, Linux without Eyes. :x

dennis-slacko531, thanks. And thank you all the others of the feedback.

First time I tested virtual machine. Virtualbox which I uploaded to the repo with preinstalled kernel module drivers, at least load my burned CD and Upup Raring 3.9.9 works in virtual environment. Cant say anything else, because I dont have previous preference.
There is no need for kernel source sfs....or devx sfs with this version of Virtualbox.

I have reuploaded 3.9.9 version. It has updated xorg intel driver and Quickpet has been uploaded so that proprietary drivers show in Drivers tab. Quickpet icon has been repositioned in Pinboard.

/usr/sbin/bootmanager gui resizing for aarf is more or less woof update task for 1024x600 screen.

Script experts could help here.
