I too tried to get an Nvidia 520 board to run properly on Puppy version 5.20 and 5.28. The best I could do is get 1080 resolution with a half-inch black border around it. I returned the board and am now running an 8400 video card, no problems. The 520 was twice the performance at half the power consumption, tho.

You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.

Have you run the X-server Wizard(xorgwizard)?

EDIT: Ah, you did but got no success. I cannot guess what happened...

The SFS_load does not install the files already in the system.
I guess you installed the nvidia sfs twice, from Quickpet and from SFS_load.
You had to uninstall previous install using the Puppy Package Manager before new install.
But anyway your system seems already installed the needed files of the nvidia driver.
Suppose what you need is just to run xorgwizard and choose nvidia.

After paying more attention to the information in this post, I went back and
re-purchased the Nvidia GT520 board ("$15 after rebate").

I went to http://182.164.208.244/puppy/opt/ and downloaded the nvidia-glx-sdl-285.06.09-2.sfs
file, then did "Setup > Setup Puppy > SFS-Load on-the-fly" and loaded the sfs file.
I exited to the prompt and ran xorgwizard, then ran xwin.
It looks very nice now, 1080 resolution, no black borders or anything. The colors look good too.

This is all from a frugal setup of Puppy 5.28

One question: I'm ready to fiddle with compiling the source. I loaded the lupu_devx_528-3.sfs file
from ftp://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/puppy-5.2.8/ but don't see the kernel source
anywhere. Is it part of the unleashed material? If so, where is the unleashed
file? I see the unleashed files for Puppy Linux versions 2,3, and 4 at ftp://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/
but don't see anything for the version 5 series.

That worked well. After downloading the kernel source, I followed Jim1911's instructions
and the driver compiled rather painlessly. The real trick is finding the appropriate
files.

I used this method to successfully install the driver in Puppy frugal 5.2, full install of 5.2,
frugal 5.28, and a full install of 5.28.

The GT520 is a pretty nice card considering its low power. I have an inaccurate power
measuring setup, and it indicates that the card adds about ten Watts of power consumption.
It is plenty fast - scrolling around on Google Maps is very smooth, as is full motion video.
It is probably the 8400 of the future - not a barn burner, but a good inexpensive low power
video card. And it has an HDMI connector, as opposed to the 8400's S-video connector.

Nvidia's latest driver should be a good candidate for a .pet file. In that form, it would be
very suitable for the casual Linux user.

Speedyluck posted a link to his NVIDIA pet here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 029#617029, with support for both GT520 and GT520M plus dozens of other NVIDIA cards. I haven't tested it myself, but it or a working pet should be included in the official repositories, pretty please
