Install the Dell driver PET above.
2. Open Menu > System > CUPS manage printers.
3. Click the Administration tab.
4. Select Add Printer.
5. From Other Network Printers, select AppSocket/HP JetDirect
6. In the next screen there is a text box containing the word "socket".
7. Replace "socket" with "parallel:/dev/usb/lp0".
8. Fill in the next screens.

Ok up to here but no Dell manufacturer

9. Under Make, select Dell.
10. Under Model select 3130CN.

Any Suggestions

If I select to install the printer driver I get the following:


DellLaser (Idle, Accepting Jobs, Not Shared)
Description: Laser Printer
Location: Office
Driver: Local System V Printer (grayscale)
Connection: parallel:/dev/usb/lp0
Defaults: job-sheets=none, none media=unknown
Jobs

Search in DellLaser:

No jobs.

If I hit Ctrl P I get the print option but still no activity on the printer despite the system indication that all is well.

As you see I have a few jobs pending and have set up a few trial from both cups and a terminal window all failed

If you installed the PET, you would have seen an entry under Dell for your printer.

Where did this come from? Did you try to install your printer some other way?

I cannot remember I will try tomorrow on the Fatdog machine to see what I did to get this
