I'm sorry, I am not good at English.

My sda1 partition is ext4.
When I mouse over the partition icon on the desktop, it lists it as ext3.

# parted -l
Model: ATA ST3250312AS (scsi)
Disk /dev/sda: 250GB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: msdos
Disk Flags:

Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
1 1049kB 84.0GB 84.0GB primary ext4 boot

# modprobe ext4
# dmesg | tail
[ 1188.366975] EXT3-fs (sda1): error: couldn't mount because of unsupported optional features (240)

Very likeable, very fast, quite compact and comprehensive. Managed to shift the default desktop items to my preferred positions and sizes. I prefer my menu items only in lowerlhs menu, but would settle for them along the baseline if I could incorporate them into the task bar, or, at least not have them overlap ditto i.e. have them free to position like the unlock function in Xfce.
Any further advice, please?

Frugal FluxPup-1.6.1 Precise

G'day oldyeller,

I've just tried your latest FluxPup and find it runs well for pretty much everything I've tried it with so far.

I modified pwidgets to my current preferences (screenshot).

Most of my boot-loaded sfs run their packages as expected.

I'm posting from slimjet (precise-sfs) but had to start this in the terminal rather than clicking the desktop icon (which uses the slimjet.desktop file). I had had the NaCl helper problem with the first-tried slimjet-tahr sfs  which didn't run at all. Rebooting with a slimjet-precise sfs gave me a terminal-working slimjet - despite its several error messages on the terminal before it opens up. Probably need to look at the slimjet.desktop text file to have slimjet run with the desired desktop-icon-click.

Otherwise (and slimjet is my problem, not your problem), very nice.

Thanks,

David S.

OldYeller, Welcome Back!!!

I finally took a few minutes to look at the new FluxPup. Thrilled to have a new version!

One thing I noticed is that after using Simple Network Setup, you need to right click, network, firewall setup. Correct me, but I think without doing that you're left wide open without firewall.

I've practically given up CD installs. These things never degrade back into the Earth but still go with the old CD-RW is always a good option here.

I'll provide some more input as I test.

Kind regards,

Slavvo67

Hello Everyone,

I am working with 01micko on the ext4 problem.

@Sage: As far as I know there is no way to put things in the task bar.

@slavvo67: I could have the firewall open up right after people setup their networking which may help them know that there is firewall protection .

@davids45: I really like what u did to pwidgets looks nice.

pwidgets improvements

G'day oldyeller,

I cannot take credit for the really good looking widgets.

I've crudely adapted them from forum member Moat's ChloePup which has a variety of modified widgets - Moat had also improved the original yahoo-based weather pwidget to include forecasts and extra details - for then to have yahoo make their weather unusable  . He then coded to call in the better accuweather site's data to get the now quite large but very impressive weather forecast widget.

Here's a link to his ChloePup if you're wanting to try some of his work:

I like this puplet. One issue - the installed wl.ko is for older broadcom chips & when I tried to compile a newer driver, kernel sources missing (devx alone insufficient). Barry's link to the sources now '404' error. Anyone still have kernel sources for 3.9.11 pae?

My laptop has a 'tilt bar' type touchpad, making right-clicks (a requirement to get the Fluxbox Menu) difficult.
Solution: Config button on the toolbar allows you to add apps, including the Menu. Command is:
fluxbox-remote RootMenu

I think this is my new favorite Pup. Everything works on my Core2 HP NC6400. It's installed on the harddrive as full-install, and also on a USB thumbdrive. Saving changes works fine on the USB. Only thing I noticed was that it won't mount my other ext4 partitions, but it looks like that's already being looked into.

Also, happy to see that FluxPup doesn't keep one of the cpu cores running at 33%. Three other Pups with newer kernels work fine except that the Linux "kworker" bug shows up on my particular machine, keeping a core at a steady 33% with no other processes running.
