I don't know exactly. My guess is that there's a command line option to open DVD chapters. The online manual is here https://mpv.io/manual/

Chapters dvdnav is often the solution

mpv is based on mplayer/mplayer2, in order to continue development it has removed lots of code, including support for dvd menus. That was probably not a good idea, but now it's the most advanced player for linux.

When I want to just watch DVDs (the main title) or any video file, i use mpv.. when I want a menu, etc. I use mplayer and its gui frontends.

However xine is a complete media player as well, and the most dvd friendly i guess, however, i wouldn't use it to play anything else, so I had a Xine pet (with many components removed), only to play dvds.

your strategy looks like mine :!:
Gnome-mplayer should do anything including DVDs. a solution is to retrofit version to older one (Pupjibaro jessie).
Then like everybody, i like to try something different, like mpv. Well noted, about DVDs and the menu (i never buy DVDs, the few that i have are gifts)
Merci pour les reponses.

I really like mpv media player, and jlst will be happy of that :)
Jukebokes are many... CDs and DVDs players (not only audio and video files) have not such a choice.

Close miss. I've set 'a' to flip/mirror mpv and Ctrl-a to flip back again (handy for those vids where subtitles are mirrored)

Gnome-MPV is the default mediaplayer in Pupjibaro stretching puppy para los americanos (South).
Helpful info how to use it (just above). Merci les gars.
Terminal speaks English, no se entiende nada !
Only rich people can go to school a long time to learn English enough to understand those topics, so helpful. Could the terminal information be translated in Spanish, and french in a hurry ?

perhaps mpv has been translated french in Puduan FR, check in progress.
Bingo :) hu, it, pt, ru and fr available. Not spanish...
I will use fr, with this Pupjibaro stretched
Keyboards shortcuts are translated well enough to allow french passengers to listen music. Les raccourcis clavier sont traduits, pour nous les francophones.
Spanish : voy a ver con Nilson Morales, o JoseJP2424 (jefes de Puppy Latina) Done. Facebook Puppy Argentina later.

MPV for francophones and xenialpup 7

MPV for francophones and xenialpup 7 see topic here Voir article Musher ici "Le lecteur mpv-0.14 pour xenialPup-7
La version la plus récente au moment d'écrire ces lignes"
You could had Xenial in the topic title, latest version are 0.26 via PPM and 0.27 is released (tested with Artfulpup, the newest flavour by PeeBee, valid up to april 2018).
72MB are needed in Artfulpup  Pet for precise works, only 7MB (tested only with video MP4). Sure version is only 0.14 but it does what i need. I don't need sophisticated stuff.
However Gnome-mplayer will be enough ((yet included, VLC deleted)
It was a try For Artfulpup. mpv-20150814-git-i686-precise.pet: 7569 K
