ttuuxxx, not every single idea on this puppy-planet is ttuuxxx-related.
anyways I would get rid of the restart jwm and change it to the new refresh-menu script located in usr/bin, because we are moving away from
#fixmenus
restart JWM
now its just one press of the button, no command line, restarting jwm is redundant.
ttuuxxx
ok, i will look at that, but if we get rid of "restart JWM" than

- the menu-template has to be altered (it's not in b2)
- maybe the pet-install has to be altered (don't atm)

I don't know it kind of looks like this one minus a few options
or maybe the one in the icewm menu,LOL maybe you haven't looked at icewm yet? open a console and type shutdown, a 2 tabbed version will popup. LOL

WHODO I did 5 out of six packages since gutenprint was working in 4.2beta2 plus for some odd reason, it wouldn't compiled this time without errors, I hope the compiler isn't broken, getting worried. :?
Anyways like I said 5 out of 6 are new built on 4.2 beta 2.
heres the link, I hopr they work, I also included the gutenprint from before in that directory.

Seamonkey and Claws Mail

Doglover wrote:Upgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.2 removed Seamonkey from default to Claws.... now I have to hunt for my emails. Who decided this?

The upgrade should have left my desktop alone. I am almost sorry I did.

The only upside is that Bon Echo doesn't crash anymore.
I agree. Changing an e-mail client is more a matter of the compatibility with existing documents and a lot of settings then of the program itself.

Puppy is on the 10th place on Distrowatch. That is a lot of users.

It saved over 2mb compresses, plus claws mail is more secure because its updated all the time, not like once every 1.5yrs.
you can export your old emails and import them.

ttuuxxx
I wonder if it might be CUPS that is the problem.

I notice that we're trying a beta version (i.e. 1.4b according to the test page that DID print in alpha4) while the CUPS download site suggests 1.3.8 as the current stable release.

Any comments?

Hi Nic I think its not the package, because it ran excellent on my printer with alpha4, but I think where the problem lays is that we keep updating system libraries, and so this was compiled on 4.2 alpha series but sometimes when you upgrade a library thing get broken, libpixman is one, I updated that once and removed the older one, and everything stopped working, rox, filemanager, etc. I'm not sure on libpoppler but thats been upgraded and If that was the case, my newer version was built on 4.2Beta 2 so it should be fine, thats one way of finding out if it was due to upgrades. I can always compiled the older cups and try that also. I'll do that as soon as beta 3 comes out as a second last resort.lol

Edit:

I can now play CDs easily.
Thanks to ttuuxxx .

" this is how you play a cd,
Step 1 Open your cd drive and insert the cd
Step 2 Close your cd drive
step 3 click Menu/multimedia/Alsa Player
step 4 Click the CD icon and step back "

OK!
I didn't see the immediately obvious Mr Picasso.
But it was a nice drawing anyway.
And not Pushy either.

////////////////

I would love printing to work.
I will endeavour to test my OKIC3100 Colour Laser printer
and my BrotherMFC-425 CN today.

But I won't hold my breath.

Gxine still can't go to full screen completely.
75% maybe???????????

/////////////////

Meanwhile I have been playing around with 4.2 Beta2
a lot, fixing 3 machines, copying drives....675 gigs in 24 hours
etc...etc.

The secret sauce (source ) is nearly right.
Let's just spend a little more time in the Out house.........please.

And I will taste my own cooking before feeding others.

Chris.

You'd think that's simple.
No! and no again.
Funny that I can select a track to rip...but not to play.

Na its the same gutenprint, thats the only one I didn't change, since it worked and I had issues when compiling it this time, Another reason why I think its a library issue now. Just try all 5 out of 6 packages.
When a package doesn't finish installing thats because the same one is already installed, this is because that gutenprint WhoDo installed already as default and its listed in the package.txt file. So when you try to reinstall it, it just disappears.

I was having trouble with b43 driver. I found the the firmware was not in the /lib/firmware folder like it was in Puppy 4.12. I copied the b43 folder from my Puppy 4.12 and manually put it in my /lib/firmware folder and now I am able to find and configure the wireless. Hope this helps track down the nasty little bug.
This helped me with Puppy 4.2 final. Thanks!
