search function pdf viewers

#1282 Post by hokal »

Hello Puppeee Friends!

I installed foxit PDF reader which is in my opinion superior to epdf. I found out that the the search function through the documents did not work. Then I installed AcrobaReader but with the same problem. Then I testet the document search function of epdf, which also did not work.

So it looks like a general problem :?:

Can somebody test this, so I know whether it's a general problem or a specific problem of my installation !?

Thanks in advance :D

Hi Hokal,

Or is it a problem with the PDF file that you have (could be not a text but a graphics kind of scan for instance.)

Just a thought

I've posted beta 4.0.

New in this version:
  • kernel updated to 2.6.33 - keep an eye out for file system errors in your save file. There might be an aufs issue that needs to be investigated so backup anything important frequently - especially for frugal installs. Other than that, this kernel has many driver improvements, and it is faster.

acpi scripts updated for the new kernel

eee-control updated - new button for turning the fan on to maximum, and new option to disable wifi at startup.

gnumeric, abiword, bluez, gadmin, and mtpaint upgraded

new games replace old games that did not fit on a seven inch screen.

added gworldclock, gperiodic, lxterminal, ripperX, BMP , Rover SpeedLaunch

osmo - tabs moved to the side by default - better for small screens

The Puppy installer and pstreamvid have been modified to fit your screen

    Powersaving enhancements

    xcalc cgtkcalc pcdripper aqualung removed

    New hibernate script

No WIFI

#1287 Post by hokal »

eeepc 900 rt2860

just installed new version 4.40. Installation flawlessly, but NO BT and NO WIFI. Driver not loaded ??

In EEE-control BT and WLAN blanked out. What a pity !

Is it possible to repair? Kernel without rt2860 driver etc ?

Hokal, can you run lsmod and see if any modules are loaded? If not, look in /lib/modules and see what's there. The zdrive and kernel have to match or no modules will load.

Here are the m55sums so you can check if you have the correct files.

I'm still trying to figure out how to make it more difficult to mix up the files.

I could upload separate tarballs for the atom and celeron versions, but then if you wanted to test them both, you'd have to download the OS twice.

:?

What do you guys think? How do I structure the download website?

The problem now is I would have to use one SD card for my 900 and a different one for my 1000H.
Then I would have to keep track of which one goes with which.
It's more than I want to do to set them both up, then do it all over again every time a new version is released.

Celeron and atom can't co-exist in one kernel?

Use the atom kernel if you want to run it on both atom and celeron. It may be slightly slower on celeron, but it will run ok.

Ok, thanks.

Could you elaborate on this please?

To disable the use of swap space except for hibernation:

First you'd edit /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit and comment out line 258 that calls the loadswap function.

Then you'd edit /etc/acpi/hibernate.sh and add 'swapon /dev/<drive>' to the beginning and 'swapoff /dev/<drive>' to the end, Where <drive> is the name of your swap device.

I'm experimenting with using an ext4 filesystem inside the save file to reduce problems with save file corruption. So far it's working quite well, fscks come back clean (aufs/ext2 - not so good with this new driver). That's probably what I'll do for 4.1 unless anyone knows any good reason why I shouldn't.

jemimah,

I lost my boot drive (icon) during migration (or just before) completely.
Anyhow, I can boot normally, but no boot drive (icon) to be seen.
Also with GParted I cannot access my boot drive. The 2nd drive works fine.

Any idea where to look ?? I have put a lot of work and hours in my specific eeesave.2fs, I really would like to repair this.

With a new installation (without my .2fs) everything works fine and I see my boot drive incl. icon. Where do I have to look ????

If you type 'fdisk -l' in the terminal, is the drive listed?

Upon further testing, ext4 save file is not helping with the aufs corruption probem. I'm compiling a unionfs kernel now instead to see if that fixes it.

Right version - Wrong kernel?

#1300 Post by dawnsboy »

Curious thing. I downloaded Puppeee 4.31 beta 4. I downloaded the celeron specific kernel for my eeepc 701 4g. System attempts to boot but stops, complaining wrong kernel for your cpu.

So I assume that I must have downloaded the atom specific kernel by mistake. I then navigate back to the download site, locate the celeron specific files and download them. I delete the original files and copy these to the drive. I attempt a clean boot but system stops with same message advising me that I have the wrong kernel for my cpu.
