sound configuration in lupu 501. follow up from previous.

tried a lot of things after seeing a suggestion for alsaconfig.
opened pmusic and instead of alsaconfig found an option for zmixer.
clicked on it and got a almost empty yer pants out scared, when the music i had playing in pmusic began to play loudly and immediately.
(crazy by arrowsmith)
do not know what i did, but, as i suspected, it is not a bug in the program but in me.
gxine does play but at a much lower level than pmusic.
will need to play with settings myself, but i wanted to drop this note to say that the problem was me and not the operating system.

btw, both pup 431 bcm4312v3.iso, and fatdog64 beta 3 work great on this machine.

thanks, everyone....GREAT JOB!

Network connect

#1182 Post by invisible man »

On my netbook, HP 110NR W/4312 Broadcom. Once Puppy left the 30.5 kernel, (I used to use Technosauras- 30.5 pet, on various Puppy's. Except Fatdog, Kirk wrote in script for it in his build. Newer kernel support incliuded, seems to be there already in Quirky, Lucid and other builds, I use a laptop as well, don't remember which vareity Puppy on which but pretty sure alll worked on the netbook w/newer kernel. b43 shows immediately, on firing up the Network Wizard, click on b43, click wlan, and go.Inv.Man

Summary: Lucid Puppy 5 don't compatible with ASUS eeePC 900

#1183 Post by Abnormalter »

As summary... Workedn't ulimatly on my devece this subsystems:
1. Sound card (Alsa cannot setuped it).
2. Battary wather (Tray Applet permanently says: "Battary charging: capacity = 1%").

I'm think, it's a kernel 2.6.33.2 incompatible, because beethwen 2.6.25 and 2.6.30 kernels any devices, include WiFi on eeePC, worked fine...

I was deinstall Lupu 5.01 now from my eeePC because functionalles it. :(

Is it possible to do the following in any of the Browsers in Lucid 5.00?

1. Allow access to only a few specific URL's (no way to bypass or to use an intermediary URL to break-out)?

2. Lock History so that it requires a password to delete?

Also, to restrict pop-ups and images in E-mail to specific SENDER addresses?

four Core Boot Issue

#1185 Post by Fishy »

When I unleash my AMD dual core I have problems getting iso's to boot. Only Lucid boots up freely.

I noticed that Lucid has nosmp in the boot menu and thought that strange in a multi-core machine. I removed nosmp from the menulist and lo and behold Lucid would't boot. Disabled two cores, booted and re-installed nosmp to lucid and V3 in menulist. Rebooted with all 4 cores enabled and lucid and V3 both booted. Still will not work with booting from dvd in 4 core. For that matter Windows 7 will not boot either.

PS. lost the on screen menu (right click) and how do I regain it?

Having lots of fun :D

In lupu 5.00 mount sda1 SDD with NTFS happens ro rights

#1186 Post by Abnormalter »

In lupu 5.00 mount sda1 SDD with NTFS happens "ro" rights. But in lupu 5.01 this bug seems to be fixed.
(In 5.00 it is shown as "rwx ------" of rights to files and folders located on this drive.)
I am interested, how it has been fixed in 5.01?
(Give me a Diff file, responsible for resolving this bug, please.)

Did you edit the Distro Repo file AND make sure you only have 5 Repos selected?

1)After several clicks over the JPG files in -=Nathan Wallpaper Setter=-, the program becomes temporarily unusable.(Perhaps version of gtk2 creates a problem)
Yes reported this in 5.x - very unstable behaviour
It is most odd - the only way I could get the image I wanted
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 807#422807
was to NOT use the usr/share/backgrounds
but direct it elsewhere root/documents/clipart

I wonder if this is anything to do with the two directories background and original_background?

Hi! I'm happy that Lucid Puppy 5.0.1 came out! :D I'm testing right now. I'm running it live from usb. I want to ask if anybody is running it live from Usb?

With UNetbootin Lucid Puppy isnt yet reconized (you can't choose last puppy version) so I selected Ubuntu to make Lucid Puppy run from usb and it works.

I've only a problem right now. When I click on the desktop the icon "play" it opens gxine fullscreen and my laptop freeze there and I've to press manually Off botton. :( I've never like gxine I prefer vlc but it's strange it freeze.

By the way I'm loving Chromium! it's fast like an aeroplane!! 8)

With VLC I got no sound
So I open gxine and drag in my ASF videos play with sound . . . :)

So now I prefer gxine to VLC - it works for me . . . :?

I run puppy 5.0.1 from a USB stick.

I downloaded the iso file for 5.0.1, then selected the disk image option in Unetbootin.

also, I change a line in file syslinux.cfg

'append initrd=initrd.gz pmedia=usbflash'

...pmount=usbflash - instead of cd

If you store your puppy save file on USB it makes it boot up faster

with regards to having to set Wireless everytime, do you have to just select connect or do you have to reconfigure the whole thing?

Jumping in to echo the other post ...

On one of the older laptops where we have it installed the wifi connection has to be re-established every time the laptop is restarted. (Panasonic Toughbook CF-28)

On that same laptop when he has been viewing YouTube videos (e.f. Transformers) for a little while it will freeze-up requiring a cold restart.

Prior to Lucid 5.0 we had 4.31 on that laptop and it would remember and re-establish.

thanks, it was the problem to have only 5 repos - didnt see a note about it anywhere though. So starting the install is fine, but i cant finish it:

now i'm stuck because there are so many dependencies missing on the missing dependencies check, that i cant see the buttons and pressing enter just freezes the process...

thanks for the tip! You said pmount=usbflash but in my syslinux.cfg I've pmedia=cd I changed it in pmedia=usbflash. Is it right? It seems to work for me.

With wireless each time I've to select from pwireless my wifi network. I'd like to connect by default to my wifi after I open the browser.

yes, changing pmedia=cd to pmedia=usbflash makes booting with usb alittle faster. I'm still researching how best to connect wireless - will let you know what I discover. It seems 4.3.1 works better than 5.0.x with some peoples wireless - however it doesn't detect my usb wireless stick easily.
