tahrpup 6.0.5 CE
Hi 666philb,
I found a problem with urxvt in tahrpup 6.0.3 CE
At first I thought it was woof-related, so I posted about it in the programming forum and then in the Woof-CE needs youthread.
But I now see Librepup doesn't have this problem, so it is tahrpup related.
If you have time, could you please have a look at this?
Thanks!

Hi gyro,
In Rox-Filer, the 'show extra detail' option depicts headers such as Name, Type, Permissions, Owner, Group, Size and Last Modified.
In some Pups, such as BK's current Werewolf, we can mouse-click the individual rox headers and drag them to a different position. Is there a configuration setting to enable moveable rox headers in tahrpup?

Hi 666philb,
thanks for this Tahrpup 604 !...
running it ...could connect to the web and post ...thanks rcrsn51!
upon fresh start
and new gnumerics start,
and
Do these tell whether some need for a fix or report the possibly long-time-ago-already-known-glibs-bug (afaik through browsing the web, it shouldn't be yet fixed..!? Those "Glib" comments has come also on other puppies and even ubuntu )
Cheers, Charlie

I grabbed the version from Tahrpup 602 and it worked.

Tahrpup 6.0.3 it is working OK for me, moving the headers anyplace I want them.radky wrote:Hi gyro,

Have you done the latest update with Quickpet->Info->Tahrpup updates?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Randy these are home LAN users opening a single folder which contain no data on a pristine system just starting up from an ISO install. Security? Breaching??
But, without opening a discussion on the security aspects, are you suggesting there should be an on/off switch on initial use or something else for example, "initially opening a more restrictive folder; say in spot/fido user"?
Curious

It is a security breach because it is a network service. SSH falls into the same category. CUPS too.
Plus, there isn't much point having it running if it isn't configured. As soon as you open the tool to configure it and finish that it's turned on, so what's wrong with that?

Thanks for confirming what exact version of Tahrpup has the bug.gyro wrote:@radky,
I can confirm that moving columns works fine in Tahrpup 6.0.3, but not in Tahrpup 6.0.4. I've no idea why.
gyro
Notice this started with a report that had no indication of what version of Tahrpup was being used.

I just tried "Quickpet" in 6.0.4, there are no fixes for 6.0.4 yet.

Please Be Sure To State The Tahrpup Version you are talking about.
You could have:
Tahrpup 6.0
Tahrpup 6.0.1
Tahrpup 6.0.2
Tahrpup 6.0.3
Tahrpup 6.0.4
Most problems with versions 6.0 to 6.0.2 can be fixed by updating using Quickpet->Info->Tahrpup updates or bug fixes.
Also, any service packs Tahrpup updates offers.
Tahrpup 6.0.4 seems to be having it's own specific set of problems.

And no one ever takes a Puppy computer outside of the home? See the attached screenie from a pristine run of Tahrpup 604. Notice the share.gcmartin wrote: these are home LAN users opening a single folder which contain no data on a pristine system just starting up from an ISO install.

Thanks. I see: you suggest to change the initial (pristine) folder to a different folder...say Downloads or spot or fido or something which is a folder that is empty and safer.
I think that is reasonable recommendation. Couple of the distros do point to a safer folder which is empty on Pristine distro bootup as is shown in my prior example.
Thanks again to explain that.

No. My recommendation would be that Samba is turned OFF by default. Anyone who wants it can select a share and turn it on.gcmartin wrote:you suggest to change the initial (pristine) folder to a different folder...say Downloads or spot or fido or something which is a folder that is empty and safer.
Selecting a different folder is not "safer" if the user doesn't know that it's being shared.
But it's 666philb's project.
Is puzzling me few days now and finally realized the problem.
6.0.3 update had an ugly hack to (re)set DISTRO_VERSION to 6.0.3.
This was set to run on every startup and did not consider at all the number of the existing version.
As a result it still runs after update to 6.0.4 so every time 6.0.4 offers to update again
Future updates should remove /root/Startup/distrospecsfix before it has the chance to run.

testing iso 6.0.4.1 uploaded...
roxfiler problems fixed
samba default set to off
extra jwm, gtk & icon themes
quickpet update mechanism fixed
improved firstrun script to take account of savefile upgrades.
one quirk ... on a wireless connection, if you set up the firewall before connecting to the internet, firewall_ng will block internet access for the browser, re-running the setup fixes it

6.0.4.1 working well here so far. You just missed Pale Moon 25.8 update heh. Issues mentioned with some wallpapers and not connecting to wireless automatically (SNS) after reboot (using savefile, pupmode 13) in 6.0.4 still there for me but minor.
edit: Also happens if I use savefolder with no firewall enabled in pupmode 12 then reboot, so I guess how I save is unrelated.

6.0.4.1 looks good.
One issue is quickpet that does not get updated after a version update so it keeps downloading and installing old updates.
You may want to add few lines in the rc.update of woof to take care of this issue.
The following would work but I'm not quite clear if this is the correct way to do it ie erase all the previous update history. You may want to fine-tune it.

Pup-SysInfo 2.6 in tahr 6.0.4.1 does not detect firewall_ng status.
However, the current version 2.6.1 does!

PS - thanks for fixing the non-moveable headers in ROX-filer.
