More details, please? Just how old a netbook and what kind? I recall something in Barry's blog about kernel support for USB1.0 going away, is it that old? What filesystem(s) are on the drives? And is this peculiar to Slacko or will LuPu or some other Puppy do the same thing? Anytime Puppy thinks there might be something wacky with a drive (or interface to it ) it will only mount it read-only. If it is a FAT filesystem you can try:r_j_h wrote:Having used puppy as my live-cd/rescue-cd of choice for several years, I have just done my first frugal install of slacko on an old netbook.
Mostly things work fine - but I have just noticed that I am unable to mount any usb storage as read-write; whether through the desktop icons or through command-line all usb drives mount as read-only.
I have searched as far as time and bandwidth will allow, but I cannot find this mentioned anywhere else in the forums. Is this a common problem - have I made a stupid mistake somewhere?
Thanks, Richard.

mount /dev/xxx -t vfat -rw /mnt/xxx
As far as searching goes, this helps:r_j_h wrote: I have searched as far as time and bandwidth will allow, but I cannot find this mentioned anywhere else in the forums.

A Compaq 110-1010 vintage 2009-ish, I'll be amazed if it's only USB 1, but thanks for the tip.kevin bowers wrote: More details, please? Just how old a netbook and what kind? ...
I have no facility to download lupu at the moment - but I'll try that over the weekend.kevin bowers wrote: What filesystem(s) are on the drives? And is this peculiar to Slacko or will LuPu or some other Puppy do the same thing?...
They are all NTFS and I have already tried that, but thanks again.kevin bowers wrote: If it is a FAT filesystem you can try:...Code: Select all

As usual get yourself a new battery for the mainboard and i mean these :christhi wrote:Using Slacko 5.3.3...
ON both "fido" user and root session, I got this annoying permanent issue of time and date being always off by hours, sometimes days.
Even after doing a net sync as root, time and date's always messed up when I reboot Puppy.
This is a major issue. The system needs proper time settings for it to work correctly. How do I solve this?
Thanks
Did you install any apps? It might have been a bad pet.Evil20071 wrote:Ready for a fun one?
Also, I can't get the Pet Package Manager to open for some odd reason, though that's been since I started using Slacko. I got it to open one time, and never again.

I can answer that one. ISO9660 filesystem is used on CDs and DVDs, and sr0 is your first CD/DVD drive. Puppy was looking for files on a CD just in case it was there, but you were booting from HD, right? It simply failed to find a CD, usually because there was none in the drive. Not related to your Rox problems, I wouldn't think, unless you were actually booting from CD. I suspect corrupted system files, maybe a HD failure?Evil20071 wrote: mount: mounting /dev/sr0 on /mnt/data failed: No medium found

I noticed the FAIL message loading iso9660 f.s. Not sure exactly what that is or why it failed.
