The project that I have started is to build a 4.1.2 Puppy to use for everyday needs. For the last seven years I have been using my Mac, but age is starting to catch up to it. The Mac is going upstairs and will be used only for important things to try to prolong it's life.
Started with 4.1.2 barebones and have added some things from your site; such as Firefox 15.1, dotpet handler, and the update file. Firefox works very well and can handle everything that I throw at it. Also added wallpapers, different icons, and some extra fonts.
So far all is working pretty well and I'm quite pleased with the progress. All of this was put on a 8 gig thumb-drive with a save file. It boots well on an older PC that I just rebuilt, don't like to throw things away and spend money needlessly.
The one question that I do have is this: started out with my drive icons showing a round bubble when mounted, somehow I messed up and now have the letters "MNTD" instead. Does anyone know to get the round bubble back. Any help would be much appreciated.

Click on the Menu - Desktop - Desktop Icon Switcher. The drive icons depend on which Icon Set you have selected. 'Stardust' has the drive icons with the 'Bubble'

Also using Puppy 412. Great stuff on Tuxtoo's site. Especially interested in the library upgrades for newer versions of programs. Anybody using these new libraries to accommodate newer versions of puppy's basic programs, etc? I would like to know which versions of programs to use with this. Any suggestions?

Just when you thought it was uneasily quiet we are pleased to announce that 412collection is still going strong and under new management. Tuxtoo has moved on to new frontiers and dave64 and myself have taken over the site maintainance.

I really liked 4.11/12... Seemed to show a light touch on old hardware...
But have been slowly moving forward with newer versions. Lupumini has a light touch also - and running Sulu1 (lupusuper1) on my 10+ year old XP laptop (well, I bought it used about 10 years ago...
)
And with Rerwin updating and maintaining it....well...

Well there are things you can do to make lucid run really fast but that's another story and rerwin is doing a great job. Disposible puppies are not my cup of tea really...I like systems that give a few years as i hate all that setting up.
Actually dave is working on a pile of site updates which will appear soon...some serious rationalisation of packages and ready for additions.
Another point to note is anything built for 4.12 will work on most any pup...for example a few have grabbed my build of 4.12 friendly dillo and found it useful. Not blowing my own trumpet but apps built for the older systems are usually lighter on dependencies and more compatible.... so its not just for the release in question.
I built the latest JWM for it too... that could be used on Lucid if needed.
Another aspect is for really old hardware as newer kernels may simply not work...cmov...SSE...mms2 etc. I also have never liked hard drives being sd(xx) either.
Anyway see a need and keep filling it.
I have been revisiting Lucid including making a slax build of it... but my main systems are still in the slax6/lenny/4.12 era...well cannot be asked to convert all those juicy sfs I made

This indicates that my older (XP) laptop was circa 2002... So she's probably 13 years old (I believe that I once looked it up, and I think it's the older version, perhaps 2001 -- seemed to be a corporate pull, rather than a failed and refurbished model).

LupuMini worked on my even older (Win98) laptop -- I doubt that the newer kernel would work on that one. But that one is so slow, I wouldn't want anything heavier than say 4.11/12 Retro (it would only run the Retros... But LupuMini works... Hmmm....

I may have 4.12 Retro on it also... Need to look...

Kinda Lucid Puppy is a 4.3.1-based puplet for general usage.
It is built to be better-looking, modern and suitable for multimedia than 4.3.1: one puplet to rule them all.
The difference between KLP and the original 4.3.1 is noticeable in 4 areas:
- Newer, updated stuff: Abiword, Gnumeric, Pmusic, Pburn, xine-lib and more. In two cases, 4.3.1 applications are replaced: Seamonkey with Opera and Pprocess with LXTask.
The newer versions fix many of the severe bugs in 4.3.1, such as the ROX focus bug and the huge file chooser bug. Also, some unneeded applications are removed - for instance, Pcdripper is removed because Asunder is better and already included.
- Multimedia - KLP supports many new audio/video formats that 4.3.1 doesn't, including XviD, MPEG-4 and FLV, thanks to the upgraded multimedia packages.
- Woof - since the release of 4.3.1 Barry added many changes and improvements to Woof: a man replacement, a replacement for the old yaf-splash, clean unmount of save files and much more. KLP has them. Also, KLP has some stuff backported from later puppies, like the Lucid Puppy first-run wizard.
- Artwork - KLP looks great :)
To sum up, Kinda Lucid Puppy is a "generic" puplet that offers all traditional Puppy stuff and sticks with Puppy tradition of small size and home-made applications, while providing a better usage experience. "

its no secret as is the lucid version but the spell of invisibility does tend to hamper things a little....

Lightweight build of XFCE4 ... fast yet friendly.
Gimp 2.4 with gutenprint plugin and pdf opening ability.
Cups and with Gutenprint 5.2
Alsa 1.1.20
Broadcom STA driver and RTL STA drivers for such as rtl3370
Searchmonkey rebuilt with simpler interface.
Xarchive plus custom 7z built for simple interface, faster opening and handling of sfs3/4, exe, rar, newer RPM, pet, lzm, cab, pup and the usuals.
Optimised Vlc build with newer ffmpeg and selection of nice skins.

Numerous tweaks, fixes additions and library updates... I lost track. Should give faster booting, less joke funnies and more application dependencies.
Save options include reiserfs for saves, image file that can have a full install in a frugal setting, save to sfs archive for true running in RAM, save to folder for neater partition usage. Simpler boot options...more akin to puppy 2.
Can load up to 252 sfs or slax lzm files. At boot by naming convention or on the fly from right click.
Some applications I added eg avidemux are now as sfs modules to keep the base smaller.
Dumped programs such as abiword, gnumeric, Xine and inkscape since there are better alternatives out there or users rarely need.
Its even got multiuser ability...create a user with the wizard and login via slim!
latest incarnation uses wbar rather than rox pinboard... better desktop startup than delayedrun by using xfce version instead.
Just a brief rundown...
