resolution changed with jwm

#102 Post by shinobar »

playdayz wrote:1. jwm will not relocate the panel when the screen's resolution is changed.
The first-run dialog (Personalize Settings) can manage it. It offers restarting X when the screen's resolution is changed with jwm.

There is seamonkey2-2.0.8-flashplayer-10.1.85.3-jre-1.6.0.21.sfs prepared for LupQ but may also work on Luci/Lupu. Click the .jar files.

sinc wrote:I also am running 232 with no issues so far. If I may just throw out a thought for Shinobar on his startup app, when gposil was developing dpup he made a check box for starting with numlock on. Personally, I think this would be a worthwhile addition to the startup screen if not too difficult. Many people using desktops would find this extremely handy.
I agree sinc. The numlock pet is only a few kilobytes and it would be as simple as constructing a script in ~/Startup or changing permissions of the current script that installs to ~/Startup .. what do you think playdayz, shinobar???

just downloaded:Mplayer-1.0rc4-Lucid51x.pet and installed.

no entry shows in multimedia menu

when attempt to run from command line, receive following error
yarddog, luci-232 already has a better version of mplayer than that--same version with substantial improvements actually.

That was my fault for not changing LupuNews probably. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

I installed the latest on an AMD X2 system for LiveCD running. No issues, thus far. Great work, everyone.
Edited: Running on Athlon 1.8 desktop just fine. And, on a Intel 32bit laptop, as well. No current issues.

Last week, I tested Shinobar's ISO entry. I want to comment that he has done a FABULOUS job in how his ISO starts. I can see some of his work here as well!

On the subject of his contribution, has anyone seen what Shinobar has done with CD startup (GRUB). If you haven't, get his ISO and run the LiveCD to the boot up screen (just thru the boot screen). IF you think it worthwhile, you may want to add his GRUB on LiveCD entry to the final mix. It certainly would give this PUPPY 5.2 a distinction from all others that exist. Really a modern look. My hat is off to his innovation, there, as well.

Thanks again to all of you!

Oh, after reading thru the announcement, it seems that JWM has some problems with some of the packages. Several WM contribution, as I understand it, are in the current packaging. Can anyone recommend an included WM that I should test and give some additional testing feedback to this forum. Thx.

Edited: I just opened the "WM Switcher" from the Menu and I see that the Openbox item is already selected. Does this mean that my desktop has already been started in Openbox and the WM Switcher has already detected it?

Package Management Utilities

Don't know if this should be reported here or not, but I notice that the SeaMonkeys available in PPM are not current. And, I noticed that the SeaMonkey 2.0.7 is NOT in the Internet section as one would expect (You have to hunt for it and its is listed in the "Document" section of the PPM)

The PET utility only offers the older versions of SeaMonkey as well.

Yes gc, luci-232 defaults to openbox with fbpanel.

Thanks for the word about seamonkey.

And that's a mistake of course.

And can anyone figure out why OSMO 0.2.10 is described in the titlebar as 0.2.8. If you run 'osmo --help' in a terminal it knows what it is!

Hi Iguleder,

In Osmo 0.2.8 the spell check icon appeared in the Notes section, but it was not (and may still not be) available in 0.2.10.

I have no idea if it might be a major problem to fix that, nor if many users would know, or care, that it is missing.

My regards

Code: Select all

#ifdef HAVE_GTKSPELL

GtkToggleActionEntry t_entries_editor[] = {
    { "spell_check", OSMO_STOCK_EDITOR_SPELL_CHECKER, _("Toggle spell checker"), NULL, _("Toggle spell checker"), NULL, FALSE }
};

guint n_t_entries_editor = G_N_ELEMENTS (t_entries_editor);

#endif /* HAVE_GTKSPELL */
Maybe it was compiled without support for gtkspell ... :?

Hi Iguleder,

Thank you very much for your reply. I understand your comment, but not the code.

However, I'm sure playdayz will fully understand and there is no need for you to educate me.

My regards

playdayz, here's an Osmo PET you could use. :)

Patched to use the horizonal layout (good for 17' monitors and all wide screens), defaultbrowser, defaultemail and aplay.

mplayer is not shown in menu system
when try to run from command line - does not work

If luci-232 already has a better version - how do I get it to work?

The default player is gnome-mplayer which has a menu entry and an icon on the desktop. Another player is Smplayer available in the PPM if you use mplayer a lot.

These are called "front ends" for mplayer. The improvements are in mplayer itself--we are now using the ffmpeg libraries from medibuntu, plus we have included the i686 libraries for computers more advanced then pentium 2's. Anyway the video should be quite good. You might also isntall the Xorg-High or the Nvidia pet for your graphics card. Oh yeah, the version of gnome-mplayer itself also increased from 0.9.6 to 0.9.9.2, a substantial jump I think.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

gobby should be good now lobster--download from ibiblio.

Seamonkey 2.0.8 is now in PPM, but you would need to Configure Package Manager and Update Now. It takes about 10 minutes because of the Ubuntu repos but it is the way it is designed to work. Or you can just wait until the next version ;-)

Are there users of OSMO who could chime in about the features they like and use. iguleder has posted a 0.2.10 version just above, but it has fewer tabs. There is also a 0.2.10 by default in luci-232, but it is reported to not have the spell check feature. You could also compare 0.2.8 in lupu5.11

Which one if any has the best feature set? Thank you.

It looks like Iguleder could make us whatever we want :-)

I just checked and the Osmo 0.2.8 in lupu-511 was the Ubuntu Osmo--but the Ubuntu Osmo 0.2.10 wants many more dependencies, including webkit.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The JRE (Java Runtime Environment) that coolpup recommended to Lobster is now in the PPM. But remember, Configure Package Manager -> Update Now.
