My first pupplet attempt - Scorpion

#1 Post by E2001 »

Hi all! :)

I thought I'd try my hand at making a custom puppy. I've been working on this setup for about a month, now. This is the way I run my machine, and only includes the software I use regularly. You could say this puppy is geared towards anyone who uses their computer as a media center.

A lot was removed to make it small enough to boot normally in 256mb ram space. But I've included my current .packages folder, so you can add back anything that you need.

Image

Based on Puppy 4.0 Dingo

Featured Applications:

IceWM Windows Manager Series 4v1 with Custom Menus, SlicknesS-MU Theme (customized), and Slick Scrollbars
Firefox 2.0.0.7 (customized, with all the best puppy bookmarks)
Thunderbird Email Client 2.0.0.9
Azureus Bittorrent Client 2.4.03
tvtime television viewer
Audacious Audio Player 1.3.2
Audacity Audio Editor 1.3.5-beta
VLC Media Player 0.8.6
Avidemux Video Editor 2.4.0i (I wanted Cinelerra, but I guess you can't have everything)
Gimp Image Editor 2.4.0-rc3
wbar OSX-Style Launcher Bar (with configuration menu)
Various Customizations for Easy Access

Applications Removed:

JWM Window Manager
Blinky (I HATE that thing!)
Seamonkey Web Suite
Sylpheed Email Client
DidiWiki
Curl ftps
All Calculators, except xcalc
All CD\DVD Rippers and Burners (no burner, so I don't need 'em)
All Games (no great loss)
Fotox
Notecase
Various Other Utilities I Never Use

Needless to say, this is my first attempt at creating a custom puppy, and there might be the occasional problem. One problem that I am aware of is the "first-boot purple newbie welcome banner" is still there, but no longer functions. I didn't know where that loaded from, so I don't know how to get rid of it. It goes away after first boot.

This was built for high-res, so it might look funny below 1280x1024.

Anyhow... Here U Go:

Enjoy! :)

I used to try every new puplet, now we have so many . . .

I always liked the idea of a monochrome Puppy
