Bulldog Finder - right click utility

#1 Post by don570 »

Bulldog Finder - right click utility
localized for foreign translations
Compatible with Rox and Thunar file manager

Edit: Version 1.4 will search in a mounted partition
to find a file quickly(more quickly than pfind
which does a general search)

This is a spin off of Large files finder written by SFR

By default, you will find a file based on a fragment of a filename
that you enter. However as an option you can find a list
of files that are created or modified before a certain number of days ago.
This can be useful when you right click on a large partition icon
in Rox filer and want your recent work.
Warning that the search can be slow.
Maybe 15 seconds on a large hard drive.

Note that foreign characters are supported.

Image

You can right click on folder or a partition. Choose Bulldog Finder
in the menu.

Requirements: Either Thunar or Rox Filer must be installed. That's all.
build_gettext and Run_in_Terminal are now included in package

I'd be interested in reports of bugs that you find.

new version 1.2

- this corrects the white space in thunar's sendto desktop file

Note: There appears to be bug in Thunar that makes it difficult
to constuct a desktop file in Thunar, but future versions will fix that
I'm sure

Bulldog finder - version 1.4

#7 Post by don570 »

Version 1.4 will search in a mounted partition
to find a file quickly(more quickly than pfind
which does a general search)

You can now search in a mounted partition --> home refers to
/mnt/home which is where you have stored your pupsave.

/root and /usr can also be searched.

You can now launch from the start menu if you wish.

Distros with Thunar should use version 1.3

I still haven't tested with a full install situation. I'll get around to it
eventually.

new version 1.5 - fixed desktop file so name will show on start menu
in English

I checked Bulldog Finder on older versions of Puppy linux
and I found that it will work so I have deleted my warning about
needing new versions of gtkdialog.

New version 1.6

I've begun to gettext the application , but I still haven't tested it
with MoManager. That step is next.

I've made several changes as well to interface and also
how the disks are recognized.

New version 1.9

Corrected mistake in packaging  I left out a file which resulted in
the app not working as a right click.

Also I checked with a full install of precise and found a mistake.
Corrected now

New feature - option to include folder names in the hitlist.
Default is to not include since folder names can
be confusing.

The POT file can be downloaded and translate the English expressions
into your native language , then post on this site to help others.
I will build the mo file and include in package

Version 2.0- removed a programming mistake that
created an error message in terminal

I've tested it on links and folders with whitespace and it
works as far as I can tell. Even links to other partitions.

I tried ver. 1.9 and 2.0 in PreciseNop-5.4.3. Are these versions OK for Thunar? Seem to work (without much testing), but once the search results are displayed it is not possible to maximize them and one has to scroll sideways to see the whole result. Seems awkward.

I just started using this seriously, and it is impressively simple, fast, and convenient. Keep it simple! Thanks.

I haven't tested bulldog finder with thunar. I stuck
the Thunar desktop file in the package since it is so tiny.

Carolina 0.5 does allow the user to modify the right clicking
of files and folders.

I'll see if I can make the change so that it works properly with it.
It's only a small change.

I've already done the modification with my other utilities...

New version 2.1

I made the changes so that Bulldog finder can be used with
the Thunar file manager. I checked on Carolina 0.5 and
PreciseNOP (see image).

The app can be launched from the start menu or a right-click.

I've included the pot file so people can translate the English expressions
into their native language. Just fill in and send back to me.
I will make the mo file.

Dear don570,

Thanks for Bulldog. Works really nicely and the filesize totals at the bottom are useful. Nice touch. I am using it now in place of something 01micko and I once put together and am getting more use out of it!

with kind regards,
vovchik

I should have posted several weeks ago.
