Live CD boot problem Subject description: pup-412.sfs not found. |
|
I created a live CD of version 4.1.2. Upon bootup and after "Loading kernel drivers needed to access disk drivess.......Done" is followed by the following error message:
"Searching for Puppy files in computer disk drives... pup_412.sfs not found. Dropping out of initial-ramdisk console....
# prompt.
Any suggestions?

Puppy sometimes has trouble finding its pupxxx.sfs file on non-standard hardware like yours. Here is the quickest work-around.
1. Get a flash drive and copy over the three core Puppy files from the Live CD - vmlinuz, initrd.gz and pupxxx.sfs
2. Boot again off the Live CD.
3. At the short initial pause, type: puppy pmedia=usbflash

Thanks for the USB work around and Puppy now comes up but does not recognize the CD ROM or Hard Drive. Both are recognized by BIOS. Do I need a different IDE driver?

I installed a different BIOS and puppy now sees the CD ROM and hard drive as SCSI disks instead of IDE. What's up with that?

In the new kernels, hard drives are named with the "sd" notation and optical drives with the "sr" notation.
