dillo2 minimal web browser based on fltk2

#1 Post by plinej »

This was compiled in Puppy 4.1 and may not work in other puppies.

homepage:
http://www.dillo.org

You'll need the fltk2 library installed to use this. You can find it here:

I am using it to post this from ChurchPup 3.01 Alpha 2. I like it. I am considering using it with ChurchPup 4.01 Concordia Edition. I just need to test FirePup with 4.01 first.
The only windows I have are those on my home.

New dillo2

Hello plinej,
Thank you--I didn't know there's a new Dillo! It's coming along... small and quicker than ever. Will be nice when they get the preferences panel done. For now I think we can just edit /root/.dillo/dillorc. Sample here:
http://www.dillo.org/dillorc and here's mine so far:

Code: Select all

panel_size=small
bg_color=#B4A9A4
allow_white_bg=NO
home="http://www.google.com/"
start_page="dpi:/bm/"
and /root/.dillo/bm.txt my bookmarks:

Code: Select all

plinej, competing with dillo 2 here? :wink:

No, not really competing. This version was compiled in Puppy, not taken from a deb package. Also it was compiled with the fltk2 shared libraries not statically.

Well, I'm not convinced it is faster than the old version, but who cares?
It's great... just a pity you can't middle-click on a tab to close it, or change the text size :)
We should probably compile it with the "experimental" https support enabled.-+

That could be interesting. Do you think it could help with web page loading?

Great to see this available. :)
Would make a secure browsing experience
Even cookies are turned off by default . . .

Puppy used to be based around Dillo
Could we go back to a browser without flash or javascript?
Perhaps for Puppy 4.3 a small browser with an option to add further browsers might be feasible . . .
Maybe if DPI using the javascript in 'Chrome' was available, Dillo might be sufficient . . .
http://www.dillo.org/dpi1.html
Maybe Flash already exists or is easy to set up?

The https support?
Not web pages in general, but you need it to access web pages that use the https protocol. e.g. online banking, probably things like ebay and amazon, all the stuff at university that I need to login to access...
You'll know if you need it because instead of loading a page Dillo2 displays a message telling you to uncomment some line in the source code and recompile for https support :)

Dillo doesn't render css yet, so it will just use its default background colour for sites that specify the background via css. You can change Dillo's default background colour by editing the config file.

I updated the package after enabling ssl for https access. It seems to be pretty buggy though.

GMM

#16 Post by playdayz »

@plinej, thanks for the dillo2.

Am I right that Puppy doesn't have a stock 'Music manager" with the three panes, artist, album, and track, like iTunes and others, to use as a database manager for one's music collection? i saw a good one I think, puppyish in that it is small, fast, lean, but functional, called Goggle's Music Manager. I prepared a pet from a deb package which works OK, but it won't start without dbus; I added dbus, which is also OK but it starts dbus daemon and dus launcher and leaves them running which is not OK. So I tried to compile it without dbus. It needs sqlite, fox, and tagli; I got those and successfully compiled them, but just can't get GMM to build.

Here is the pet if you would care to take a look at it.
http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy400/gmm.pet

I am hoping that you might be able to compile it if you think it is a worthwhile program. Or maybe someone else who reads this. Here is the project's page (it is "goggle" not "google").

http://code.google.com/p/gogglesmm/

Thanks.

Puppy comes with zigbert's Pmusic app. You can also find Aqualung and WxMusik in the forums if you do a search. I'll take a look at the program you mentioned though.

here is an updated 2.1 pet with (basic) css support

Edit: uploaded it with semi-working download plugin from debian's 2.0 version of dillo.
