At last, one of my favorite games is coming to my computer. This is one of the games that I hated to leave behind when I migrated away from the Virus Operating System.

Have tested .sfs on Puppy 4.3 and Wary 5.5 - works .
It is 100% statically so should run on any Pup . Extracted into a full installs consumes 340MB space .

Problem I have with the QuestLog screen . First I could not figure out how to leave that , so killed the window . After that , the game was not able to figure out sound mode ( /dev/dsp or esd error ) .

Only 1 segmentation fault until now after playing for hours .
A second SegFault after hitting exit button  .

I hadn't noticed this problem with the QuestLog, thanks for reporting it! :)

About the sound, i think that the game can't use the audio card when another application requires audio output too. For example, i couldn't hear a thing when i had firefox with a youtube video loaded on a tab or mplayer with a paused movie.

It's 32bit only, I believe and if I recall correctly, it only ran on certain 32bit puppy's, too.

I've got this on Tahrpup-i686 6.0.5:

Code: Select all

root# heroes3
XF86DGAGetVideo: failed to mmap /dev/mem (Invalid argument)
root#

gonna find the way out cause want my kids to try it while they are in love with The Battle of Wesnoth.

I've just solve the problem in Tahr like this:

It seemed did want to run under root. So:

Code: Select all

su spot
than the game claimed for the disk space while creating /root/spot/.loki...

I change the owner to /root/spot from root to spot

Code: Select all

chown spot:spot /root/spot
The game started softly! The only issue it's windowed and in small resolution. ;)

To run just in one line in terminal:

Code: Select all

su spot -c heroes3

have fun!

I tried this in Tahr64 606, using takenpup's one line script. Got this

Code: Select all

XF86DGAGetVideo: failed to open /dev/mem (Operation not permitted)
Looked in /dev/mem and it is empty
