## the light web browser

#301 Post by hamoudoudou »

If included browser a Light is not good for you just change it, included in adrive for artfulpup
The .sfs in this iso are as follows:
adrv contains the web browser and can be replaced ##
fdrv contains a selection of firmware **
zdrv contains the kernel in association with vmlinuz
ydrv adds extra right-click options and is optional
## the light web browser can be replaced by a more heavyweight browser such as
Chromium or Firefox - see the forum for details

Dpup Stretch with Firefox ESR 52.7.3 The easy way is to install from skamiinux here below

What about final release ?

#302 Post by hamoudoudou »

What about final release ? that would mean Dpup Stretch 7.5 is the elected Puppy stretch.. no need to test or use different versions.. this one is agreed by all VIPs inside Puppy Forum society.
However locale versions are available, mainly to help local users who would not understand English explanations Given in Murga forum.
Hungary :
Kernel 4.9.92 Huge 32 bit Pae
Pale Moon 27.8.3
Firefox ESR 52.7.3

In the Dpup version I'm using, Light is not included (thanks God! )

Honestly, I don't get it. What's the point/rush of declaring it "final release"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dpup is based on Debian, and Debian is known for its stability and no rush to declare a release as "final" (as it does happen in other distros)

Point being, stability and continuous improving are the key, the rest is just semantics. I guess Dpup Stretch will be considered "final" release when Dpup Buster is on

If I'm talking nonsense, sorry, my bad 8)

so you mean final releases are useless...

#304 Post by hamoudoudou »

so you mean final releases are useless... i should say the same for alpha beta, why to begin something aimed to disappear, better is to fulfill crosswords, trashed when completed; no more satisfaction to get..
Dpup stretch aimed to be the perfect stretch . Final release will be the certification for Public release. a Jump from school to reality, and support for thousands of downloaders.. that is an evidence that support is not development.
like washing machines, building it with your colleagues is different of receiving claims from housewives..

It was called Final for a bit, then was changed back to RC2:
radky wrote:Multiple reports indicate Dpup Stretch release status is not final.

Revert to RC-2
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 103#979103

After that post, there are many things mentioned that will be fixed in an upcoming release:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 621#982621
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 082#981082
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 473#980473
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 709#979709
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 224#979224
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 207#979207

Since the changelog in the 2nd post says "Last edited 02/Jan" I'm guessing it's still at RC2 but haven't checked the iso.

"Light" browser was a nice idea for a while but the project has been dead since 2016. OTOH Palemoon is still being maintained.

Please, let's not be childish. That is your conclusion, not mine. And you know it.

I was crystal clear in my previous answer. No need to add anything to it.
hamoudoudou wrote:Final release will be the certification for Public release.
You said it. A certification. Are you willing to concede a certification to something that might be still incomplete? I know I'm not. Vista comes to my mind, Windows 8 too. Those OSes are not Linux(es), sure, but are great examples of what to not do: To call "final" something is not finished yet.
hamoudoudou wrote:and support for thousands of downloaders...
Here you say a goddamn truth. "Support" and "thousands". How? Last time I checked, you yourself admitted Radky is the only one who pushes this project forward. And do you think he alone can "support thousands of downloaders", give feedback, find bugs, release fixes and develop? Sorry, no need to wait any answer here because question answers itself: "No way!"

Again, nothing personal. Just my two cents

Hi everybody! I've been bumping out against this kind of message for some time now, each and every time I've needed to install a rather big application (see attachment)

Funny thing is, I can install later each package mentioned in those messages without a hitch.

No message appears when installing small applications.

I can't assure it but it seems this problem is always related to this repository: ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

hungarian and 'spanish' teams have yet released final versio

#308 Post by hamoudoudou »

of course hungarian and 'spanish' teams have yet released their derivatives for local users, translated and customized. They support these derivatives through their fora Puppy Linux or Facebook (nilson Morales)..
US consider US as official, but spanish by Nilson, josejp or csipesz whould be validated immediatly by a international 'Golden Puppy' jury.
US consider that only US dogs can be elected.. um i would suspect that RC allows to answer newbies 'wait for final release' , they to go on upper level tasks, and much more pleasant than learning babies to walk.

That libgck downloaded ok for me, but I only tried a straight download of it by searching for "libgck" from ppm. Which package did you try to install to see that message? Or perhaps the error is country/IP related? Are you using a vpn?

I think wget-1.19 might have fixed some errors related to this?

Code: Select all

  More bug fixes:
A major bug that caused GZip'ed pages to never be decompressed has been fixed
Support for Content-Encoding and Transfer-Encoding have been marked as

patches/packages/wget-1.19.3-i486-1_slack14.0.txz: Upgraded.
This update fixes various non-security bugs, including this one:
Prevent erroneous decompression of .gz and .tgz files with broken servers.
I didn't see it in stretch repositories though so you might have to compile it.

play music

#311 Post by earlytv »

I use dpup stretch and can not get it to play anything from vtuner.
Go to Vtuner, upper right click on station list, 1000,s of music to pick from, click on big band, then click on got radio bigband and swing, its a mp3 128k.
Dpup goes to a ffconvert and does not play it like all other puppy do?
How do I fix this?

How does it play in other Puppies? Within your web browser?

Or does it open in an external audio player like pmusic?

1 - Go to the Vtuner web site in palemoon browser, right-click on station list (upper right), click on Big Band, then click on GotRadio Big Band & Swing
2 - You will see the 'Open with' dialog box -> go to Other... -> then navigate to /opt/deadbeef/deadbeef
3 - Works fine for me

Thanks, that works.

I downloaded sol-1.0.7-i386.pet and then let dpup install it.
It works great, I hope I did not mess anything up?

Thanks radky. It's great to see an update for this. Your RC-3 iso feels very polished and well-rounded. :)

Frugal manual install

#318 Post by davids45 »

G'day radky,

I downloaded your latest iso and made a manual install (copied files from the mounted iso) into my main Frugals partition.

Seemed to boot up OK but...
1. Wallpaper setter not working (JWM message)
2. Copying a file with Rox by mouse-click - nothing happened.

Booted an earlier stretch75 of yours and both these operations were working.

I haven't checked the download checksum so if no one else has my problems, then that's probably my issue.

Thanks,
David S.

How do you set the time off the internet. It is normally located on "first time run setting: but I don't see it there.
