Searching for ppd file for Brother HL2140

#1 Post by jeffneedle »

Yikes. I never saved the ppd file for the Brother HL2140. The cups wrapper file directly from Brother doesn't work. Does anyone have a way to get the ppd file directly? This lets me install the printer without problems. Thanks.

Hiya, Jeff.

Have a look here:-

https://openprinting.org/printer/Brothe ... er-HL-2140

You can either view the PPD file, or download it directly. Hope that helps!

Mike.

Revisiting this issue. I still can't get my printer to work. I'm testing it on Tahr 6.0.5, 64-bit, full install.

I've downloaded the ppd file, pointed to it in the setup using cups (localhost:631). A test page doesn't print. Trying to print from abiword is likewise unresponsive. I'd love to resolve this. Thanks, as always.

It looks like so much work. I miss the days of easy printer installation.

A question: you download the .pet file. How do you execute it? .sfs files are easy. .pet files defeat me. There's no help on the page as to how to do this.

Many thanks.

To install a .pet file just click it with your mouse.

The puppy package manager gets launched and asks if you want to install it.

Follow the instructions on the page, it looks complicated but it is not.
You will need to download the linux drivers from Brother.

The PPD file suggested above by Mike assumes that you have the full HP printer driver package installed, which you don't.

The better choice would be from here, which uses a built-in Ghostscript driver.

Perdido's suggestion to get the Brother vendor packages will be problematic because they are 32bit and you have Tahr64.

Success! A note for Puppy folks. Roxfiler is, IMO, an ugly and difficult file manager. I much prefer xfe. Problem: xfe doesn't behave in ways that roxfiler behaves. Clicking on a .pet file in xfe does nothing. If xfe is your default file manager, xenialpup won't let you pick a new desktop background. I wonder if this isn't worth mentioning when offering support. Roxfiler it is, no matter how ugly it is <grin>

Thank you!
