How to use Brother DCP-T300 in Precise or Xerus? (Solved)

#1 Post by nick21 »

Hello.

I bought Brother DCP-T300 print and I could not install it.

I use Puppy Precise 5.7.1 or Quirky Xerus 8.5 sistem.

I extract and run the linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.0-1.gz from support.brother.com (in Xerus 8.5, in Precise 5.7.1 don't work), choose DCP-T300 in Cups, "Add printer", but don't print.

I try to find ppd file for this printer, but I have not found.

Please, can somebody help me?

Excuse-me for my english!

Welcome. Try the following procedure.

Go to:

http://support.brother.com/g/b/download ... pe-561_0_1

and download the LPR printer driver (deb package) and the CUPSWRAPPER printer driver (deb package). Install in your 32 bit puppy debbi-1.3.pet from:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 619#306619

Then install the downloaded drivers (first lpr and second cupswrapper) using debbi:

Code: Select all

debbi /path-to/dcpt300lpr-3.0.2-0.i386.deb
debbi /path-to/dcpt300cupswrapper-3.0.2-0.i386.deb
Then open the browser at "localhost:631" and add your printer.

You specified puppy 32 bit, but I use Xerus64 ver. 8.5, matter?

I copy debby-1.3 pet in /root/my-applications/been and run with double click it.

I try from Quirky Xerus64 ver 8.5 sistem (Barry Kauler) and "sakura" console give me:
"debbi /root/Downloads/dcpt300lpr-3.0.2-0.i386.deb
chown: unknown user lp
Post-install script completed!
Done!"

and

"#debbi /root/Downloads/dcpt300cupswrapper-3.0.2-0.i386.deb
/opt/brother/Printers/dcpt300/cupswrapper/cupswrapperdcpt300: line 300: /etc/init.d/cups: Permission denied
lpinfo: Bad file descriptor
lpadmin -p DCPT300 -E -v usb:/dev/usb/lp0 -P /usr/share/cups/model/Brother/brother_dcpt300_printer_en.ppd
lpadmin: Unable to connect to server: Bad file descriptor
Post-install script completed!
Done!"

At "Add a printer", "Model" appear double "Brother DCP-T300 CUPS (en)". I select one of them and give following mesages:

"Printer Brother_DCP-T300 default options have been set successfully".

But, do not print.

At "Show completed job" appear "Unknown".

Yes, it matters. The drivers of brother printers are released only with 32 bit architecture and you have to use workarounds on 64 bit linuxes. Try my procedure in precise. I do not know quirky xerus 64 bit and so I can't help you. I also managed to install my brother printer in Xenialpup64 using the 32 bit drivers:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 173#985173

In debiandog 64 bit and bionicdog 64 bit I discovered in repositories other drivers installing and searching for "foomatic" stuff in the packages' manager. I hope that similar drivers are in xenial xerus reps, too. Try to install in xerus64 "foomatic-db-engine" or something like and use a listed driver most close to your printer. You have to test: printing is not well supported in puppy for lack of feedbacks.

It's work in precise !

Thak you verry much, I can print.

But, I can not scan with my DCP-T300 printer.

I try to install on Precise Puppy 5.7.1 (Barry Kauler) sistem "brscan4-0.4.4-4.i386.deb" and "brscan-skey-0.2.4-1.i386.deb" (32 bit) from support.brother.com but, unfortunately, console give me: "dpkg can't open /var/lib/dpkg/status':No such file or directory"

Please, can you give me a solution to this problem?

Have you tried to install the scanner's driver with debbi? It executes a postinstall script:

Code: Select all

debbi /path-to/brscan4-0.4.4-4.i386.deb
