Humans' and Puppy Land's leading maxim needs to be: trying to think small.

Trying to think big SUCKS!

Some people want spell checkers in their IDEs, but not me. If it were not bad enough to have the chance of breaking code, an experiment with just allowing it in comment sections produce the following diff

Code: Select all

< signal(SIGCHLD, SIG_IGN); // let kernel raep the children,
>signal(SIGCHLD, SIG_IGN); // let colonel rape the children

"Real programmers use cat." (from an interview with Bill Joy, father of the "vi" editor)

As in

$ cat >foo.c
type...type...type...CTRL-D
$ cc foo.c

Can't claim this is "classic", since it's my own invention, but anyway:

We are Puppy!

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Hello all.

Here is a good one, although not from Puppy.

"Colours can make anything look ugly."

(Found today, this hour, on the Siag web site, screenshots page,
at http://siag.nu/siag/screenshots.html, 2nd picture.)

I thought the above sentence was a roar and wanted to share it!

Hello all.

Here's a good one, I think.
Guarantee:

Since some people are wary of using a program that has no guarantee,
I've decided to provide the following guarantee:

It is a well-known fact that any non-trivial program has bugs. If
you haven't found them, you just haven't stumbled upon the proper
combinations of actions that will cause the bugs to manifest them-
selves. Since sc stands for "Spreadsheet Calculator", and since a
spreadsheet calculator is by definition a non-trivial program, sc is
guaranteed to have bugs.

Chuck Martin

For the sake of transparency and honesty, may I suggest that we include
something similar in our PuppyLinux docs.

Indeed, anyone using Puppy long enough is guaranteed to find a bug!
(Just one! ;) )

Hello all.

Here is one that nobody can resist: :D
"This allows the programmer to use code that is inefficient but easier to write."

Author: Our very own 6502coder!

That sentence applies to a lot of coding, I'm afraid...

What can I say? I don't like working any harder than I have to! I worry about speed when it becomes a real problem, not just a theoretical one.

Or to quote myself from earlier in this thread:

"Performance anxiety causes premature optimization."
