Backlight Manager 1.0

#1 Post by FrostyC »

I was dying from the searing backlight of my laptop, so collectively lots of hours put into this but it's finally working how I want it, so I'm releasing it for testing.

Backlight Manager
This makes use of YAD (included with puppy) and xbacklight (included in this package). Took a lot of inspiration from Sparky-Backlight, but Backlight Manager has many more options that I have hand crafted. Think of this kind of like a frontend for xbacklight. AND BOY DOES IT NEED ONE. Can't tell you how many times I [xbacklight -20]'ed my monitor right off because xbacklight actually lets you set it to zero (this effectively turns your monitor off). So I coded a little failsafe for that among many, many other things. I was going to add icons to the right click menu, but it began to look clunky and I prefer the lightweight feel of the all text menu.

Install it, open from desktop menu, BOOM. New tray Icon, right click it for backlight options menu, left click to set screen to predefined backlight percentage.

This was made for XenialPup64 7.5, but may work for you as long as you have YAD and xbacklight works with your screen. If you find any bugs or need any help please let me know, if I get time I will help! Hope someone finds this useful! Must have for me on my laptop. Let me know what you guys think.

Excellent "FrostyC" ! Been looking for something like this for ages.
This has now made my mind up to change to Puppy full time.
This was one of my biggest bugbears as well.
Surprised you haven't had many takers.
Is there any way to change colour of the icon to suit different themes? (Not a criticism, but just a general enquiry).
Thanks again.

I run a lenovo x230 and managed a workaround using acpi_osi="!Windows 2012" in the menu.1st but this is great

I will mirror it here: http://archive.org/details/Puppy_Linux_Forum_Pets
