OpenSSL TLSv1 problems in Precise 5.6.1

#1 Post by paulh177 »

My Precise 5.6.1 installation uses OpenSSL 1.0.1 (14 Mar 2012), which seems to be the latest version available for that platform via PPM.

A lot of what I do on it is developing wee apps (eg twitter bots) in Python3.

It seems that the Python repos have deprecated TLSv1 and I can no longer use Python's 'pip' library installer without critical errors. This is a Big Problem!

I'm /assuming/ (dangerous) that the issue relates to openssl and/or certificates.

ssl etc are pretty dark mysteries to me, so I'd appreciate some guidance.
I've looked over on StackOverflow but though a few people are seeing a very similar problem, it all seems to relate to Macs, and I'm getting nowhere *fast*.

ssl is a builtin I think in Puppy, and f*cking with builtins leads to tears before teatime in my experience.

I had a play with removing the builtin and compiling a more recent openssl but rapidly ran into problems and reverted to backup.

I know that going to Tahr or Xenial would settle this for me anyway (I've tested that), but I've issues with both that I haven't resolved yet and I don't want to be fighting my OS on two fronts.

Has anybody made a more recent openssl that I can pick up and drop into my Pup?

thanks in advance.

Here's a 1.0.2l pet by belham2. I have used this successfully with TahrPup. Might work with PrecisePup too. I also have musher0's 1.0.2f pet which definitely works with PrecisePup.

Be glad to, musher0. But as you know, it's about 3 MB so too big for me to post here. Can you PM me an email addr where I can send it as an attachment? Or if you have Dropbox, try this link:
