Resolution settings in the newest Puppies

#1 Post by bigpup »

Example Puppies:
Tahrpup
Xenialpup
Other newest Woof-CE built Puppies.

I have noticed that the resolution settings in xorg.conf are being ignored and something else is controlling them.
Anyone know what and how?

You can use programs that control settings in xorg.conf and those settings are changed, but do not seem to get used.

Example output of Pup-Sysinfo:
VIDEO REPORT: xenialpup, version 7.0.8.1

Chip description:
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM204 [GeForce GTX 970] (rev a1)

Requested by /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Resolution (widthxheight, in pixels): 1366x768
Modules requested to be loaded: dbe

Probing Xorg startup log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log):
Driver loaded (and currently in use): nouveau
Loaded modules: dbe ddc fb fbdevhw glx int10 kbd mouse shadow vbe vesa

Actual rendering on monitor:
Resolution: 1024x768 pixels (271x203 millimeters)
Depth: 24 planes

...the above also recorded in /tmp/report-video
This is using Nouveau driver.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Best I can tell, is something is detecting what it thinks your monitor can handle for resolution settings,
Using that info to stop any other settings from being used.

If so, why is xorg.conf setting programs offering settings that will not work?

Misposted, please delete
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.
