I'm using an HP G56 laptop with a copy of Slacko 5.9.3 onboard. I can connect my phone via a USB port on my laptop but Slacko doesn't see it. How do I arrange for it to be seen please?

Androids should be straight-up.

You want this if your camera app can't connect.

If your Slacko's 64, request a copy.

If it's an aftermarket cable you're trying to connect with, expect problems.

Hi there matchpoint,
I've now tried this out on Slacko 5.9.3 and Slacko 6.9.9.9 both 32bit, both have failed to see my phone altho the phone itself sees a USB connection in both cases.

What did you install from the link I left?

How does "lsusb -vv" see your phone? Output here.

Is it a Samsung?

How about the cable, factory or aftermarket?

What Android version is this?

What connection protocol are you using? Simple-mtpfs, Jmtpfs, Camera?

With some Android devices, there is a menu to select the protocol.

Where are you seeing this? It may be for the purposes of tethering, not file transfer.

Be specific about what that means.

I was able to connect to my 2012-vintage Android phone with gtkam, even in Lucid 5.2.5.

However, I found that the easiest way to transfer files back and forth between Puppy and my Android mobile phone is via WiFi. I installed an FTP server on the phone, and use the FTP client gftp on Puppy.

Hope this helps.

LeithR, answer Shakespeare for the moment and don't worry about the others. You can get back to them later.

Version 2.3.3 build GINGERBREAD.XWKPY

Simple-mtpfs

With some Android devices, there is a menu to select the protocol.

The phone indicates that its seeing USB connected - tethering is switched off.

On both my slacko 5.9.3 and my slacko 6.9.9.9 laptops. after selecting Simple-mtpfs - I get a splash screen with

libmtp version: 1.1.13

listing raw device(s)
No raw devices found.

You have an old version of Android that pre-dates the use of Media Transfer Protocol. So apps like Simple-mtpfs won't detect the phone.

Did you try Camera?

The early Androids may treat the phone as a USB mass storage device. In that case, you would get a USB drive icon on your desktop. But it sounds like that is NOT happening.

There may be a setting somewhere in the phone that enables this mode. Or it may need a special USB-OTG cable.

Google "Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 linux USB". You may get some ideas.

Yeah. If such a setting exists, maybe this is how you toggle it?

Rather than doing a direct connect I often use AirDroid.

You run AirDroid on your android device and access it via a web browser.
