Budgie

ubuntu-budgie-desktop (#apt install)

Full instructions here :
http://www.fosslinux.com/2889/how-to-in ... -17-10.htm

Instructions are for Ubuntu 17.10 and derivatives.

There is an alternative to ubuntu-budgie-desktop, it is budgie-desktop-environment.

Try one or the other.

You end up with a minimal budgie desktop if using --no-install-recommends (#apt install --no-install-recommends budgie-desktop-environment) : around 16MB of stuff. 67MB installed.

Dog-based OS are not installing recommends by design.

Due to the minimal nature of Dog-based OS, you may end up with unsatisfactory result. Every time i tried a new and more complete desktop on a Dog OS, it was buggy. I have come across A Debian-Stretch-Live Starter Kit in Murga-Linux forum by rcrsn51 that should be a good start if you intend to try more complete desktops, such as Budgie. It is a barebone OS more suitable to the kind of experiment suggested here.

These instructions will not work for Puppy.

Puppy does not have or use apt-get.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
