What photo management software is available? [solved]

#1 Post by Spielmops »

We had this already: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=13668

But I am searching now ! for a tiny photo-management-software available for actual puppies (in my case it's slacko 6.3).

F-spot: the domain ist not found.
Mapivi: can not find some ENVironment's and I can not find them either.
Jbrout: I did not find a Puppy-version and for the version I found no suitable Python-version.
Gqview: I can not find a newer version
Shotwell: to BIG!
Photonic: I know that from Mageia-Linux, but no version for puppy.
Picasa: I found aversion, could install it and: not usable on my old mashine.
Snipshot: not found
Flphoto: This is based on the FLTK toolkit an this is nowhere to be found.
Xnview: not found for puppy with solvable dependencies.

Do you know better?

Xnview
I got XnViewMP working.

Using Xenialpup64 7.5 Puppy version.
The Xenialpup64 devx sfs is loaded. May need it too.

Download the Linux deb package from here:
https://www.xnview.com/en/xnviewmp/#downloads
Just get the correct bit version (32 or 64) for your Puppy.

After download.
In Rox file manager, navigate to location you saved it.
Click on deb package to install.
It will install XnView to a directory at /opt/XnView.

It will not make any menu entries in the Puppy menu.
To run it:
In the /opt/XnView directory.
Click on the XnView.desktop file to start it.
It first offers settings options.
After that the main window opens.

You can drag and drop the XnView.desktop file onto the desktop, to make a desktop icon for the program.

Mapivi
Using Xenialpup64 7.5 with 32bit compatibility lib sfs loaded, so 32bit programs will run in 64bit Xenialpup.
Also, the Xenialpup64 devx sfs is loaded.
This may need Perl and that is in the devx sfs.

In Puppy Package Manager(PPM)
Search for mapivi
Found mapivi_0.9.7-1.1
Downloaded and installed.

It does not make a menu entry.

To run:
navigate to /usr/bin/
Click on the mapivi file.

Also, can run from console by typing:

Code: Select all

mapivi
If you want a desktop icon to run mapivi.
Drag and drop the /usr/bin/mapivi file to the desktop.

450 MB free on disk and Xnview can not be installed because of "not enough disk space" ....

The downloaded file has already 58MB - way to much for Puppy.

Xnview total install is 147MB.

The more a program can do the bigger it has to be.
"not enough disk space"

Are you using a save file?

If yes.

What is the free space in it?

How did you install it and in what version of Puppy?????

You may have to load the Puppy versions devx sfs.
It has the Perl stuff in it.

I have a hard-disk-installation of Slacko. An I have a little more than 450MB free.

And I don't want a program, that can do everything and make coffee from those photos which are blure. A bit more than Gpicview will do ....

You posted the list.

Those pictures I posted are done by MtPaint and the blurriness is due to having to reduce them down to fit in the post. I could clear them up, but I did not want to spend the time to do it.

MtPaint in Puppy is all I ever use to modify images.

I have a hard-disk-installation of Slacko
That statement says nothing useful.
Slacko What version?
Frugal or full install?
If frugal using a save file or folder?

Try installing pyobject, that should fix the pygtk error.

Xnview AppImage

#14 Post by mikeslr »

There's a 61 Mb AppImage which runs under Xenialpup64 and, I think, Tahrpup64 and variations of these, such as Lx and X. I don't know if it will run under Slacko64s. https://addons.videolan.org/p/1170376/

Versions for Slackware, both 32 and 64 bit, of fotoxx can be installed from https://pkgs.org/download/fotoxx. Note, however, each of their dependencies.

Windows portable Xnview runs under any version of Wine. It's only about 22 Mb, so even with the space Wine needs, that seems to require the least hard-drive space.

@Geoffrey
No pyobject in my sources.
And your adrive is to big.

@mikeslr
Wine and Xnview: tried that with Picasa. No, thank you, eats to much resources.
The appimage of Xnview run under 64-bit. I have a Pentium II .
Fotoxx: tried that already (forgot it): to much dependencies. And it's an Image-Editor. I'm searching for a photo-manager like Gwenview.

Thanks for your help,

What is the computer specs?

Telling us you want something like some program, is not telling us much useful info.

What exactly do you want a program to be able to do?

Nice work, hamoudoudou. :)

Slackware versions of geeqie are available via https://pkgs.org/download/geeqie. They don't appear to have many dependencies.

@hamoudoudou and @mikslr:
Thanks a lot! Thar was exactly, what I was searching for. No missing dependencies, small and fast. It's Gwenview for Puppy!

@bigpup
I wrote that: Pentium II ...
Have a look into the forum hardware for my name and "feedback thinkpad". It's awful, what this old machine can do today, if one uses the right software.
