What's this Ethereum?

#1 Post by Lobster »

Who has installed, understood or used Ethereum? :D

Me neither.

However Puppy is an emergent doacracy
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/FrequentlyAskedQuestions

What can be done?
https://www.ethereum.org/

How to install
https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum ... g-Ethereum

So what is Ethereum exactly?
Don't know and neither does anyone else from what I have understood (or not really understood . . .) Read some tutorials, watched some nerdy YouTube stuff. Heard some stuff about 'blockchains' and open source internet. It seems to start with but potentially go beyond the current currency schemes such as 'Bitcoin'

... so I don't know what it is but I want one
This javascript version is probably not yet for me . .
https://github.com/ethereumjs/ethereumjs-lib

Bring out the smartdogs.

Guys can you:
- install on Puppy, preferably Slacko64
- document for us slow dawgs - I can just about install Chromium which is one way in
- install the command line tools - yep gonna try that first. First gotta take my vitamins from you Puppy Vets ... 8)

HI Lobster.

I don't know, I think I should stay away from this Ethereum.

It looks like BitCoin, and it offers a robot to run your business
-- from what my weak feeble mind could gather on their site.

I'm not reassured... Good luck, though.

It's a glimpse into what Internet was meant to be, or could have been.

My understanding is that Etherium is a well recommended Cryptocurrency second only to the number-1=Bitcoin.
Hence, it appears to be worth buying Bitcoin and/or Etherium.
Search for it on youtube.

Since it is crypto-currency, it is ultimately an intangible and thus fiat.

A dollar, or GBP, or Euro or Yen, or Yuan is a tangible thing that one can put in one's pocket, or retrieve using a plastic card. Since such currencies are based upon the Economy (work producing tangible product or intangible service) these currencies are at least partially fiat. Currencies based upon the worth of a tangible item such as Gold, Silver, Copper, etc are not fiat. The British Pound-Sterling is a good example, as is any precious metal denominated in a currency.

Ethereum, Bitcoin, et al are based upon energy expended to do cryptographic work like Block Chain work. Right now there is very little in the way of tangible BitCoins that can be put in ones pocket, but it does exist. Generally speaking, I have only heard of unit bitcoins (value about US$14,000) but have not seen fractional coinage (centi, milli, and micro have been disccussed). As far as other crypto-currency, I have not seen a tangible representation officially "minted".
