Subject description: fast and lightweight GTK+ based file manager

Hi all,

Edit: I re-uploaded the bundle to include a new pcmanfm.desktop icon.
To make the Trashcan work, please, download Marv's "trashrightclick.pet" three posts down. It works as it should with pcmanfm.

Since learning that SpaceFM filemanager has a problem with copying anything larger than, ~20MB-100MB, always stalling at 90-93% of doing the job, I decided to compile pcmanfm-1.2.5 from slackbuilds sources.

These packages were compiled on slacko-700-RC3_k.4.4.70-PAE, 32 bit, slackware 14.2 compatible pup.
Also works well in Slacko-6.3.2 based pups.

Did NOT work on Slacko-5.7.0

I am not sure if these pets will work on any other pups than these.

The /usr/share/locales are included in this pet, if needed.

Download pcmanfm-1.2.5-i686_plus_deps.tar.gz here:(1.38 MB)
https://www.mediafire.com/file/b0yc9kppds9yw0c/pcmanfm-1.2.5-i686_plus_deps.tar.gz

pcmanfm-1.2.5-i686_plus_deps.tar.gz Md5: 6f1d4375b23b5e32d1edc6dc08a88963

Contents of the archive, pcmanfm-1.2.5-i686_plus_deps.tar.gz, are listed here:

Code:
1. libfm-extra-1.2.5-i686.pet  33.3 KiB MD5: dc8afc63ede36fdd78985be7c7bf682f

2. menu-cache-1.0.2-i686.pet   43.2 KiB MD5: 3ca87cf206332d3d6e5a11493bf83767

3. lxmenu-data-0.1.5-i686.pet  52.8 KiB MD5: f1307c5d50fd161f536799b2bc035881

4. libfm-1.2.5-i686.pet       504.1 KiB MD5: d57f246a9ed2f4369807449991057aaa

5. pcmanfm-1.2.5-i686.pet     286.0 KiB MD5: bf817dcde88617a33712157176a476f4

I am including, peebee's, lx_right_clicks-0.7.pet, because it makes using files very much easier with pcmanfm.

6. lx_right_clicks-0.7.pet    2.4 KiB  MD5: 7e5310fe6264a6b7b8d27d1759528bad

I've been using and testing pcmanfm-1.2.5 on the above mentioned pup, that it was compiled on, and am very pleased with the results.

I hope these pets are of some use to our community.

bliss,
festus

Nicely packaged. Installs and runs well in ZestyPup 17.10.05. Fiddled the .desktop icon, made it the defaultfilemanager, and set up my bookmarks. I think that combination makes a great non-gvfs pup.

edit: Getting the trashcan to work without gvfs took a little symlink voodoo but basically it does work. Anything for non-gvfs Wink

Thanks,

Hey, Marv, thanks for trying it out.

Could you, please, post the symlink to get the trashcan to work?

In the meantime I'll search for the answer.

I was thinking about re-upping the pcmanfm.pet with the better .desktop icon that I have repackaged, but I'll wait to see if I can include the symlink with it.

The trashcan symlinks worked after a fashon but never made me happy. I wrote a custom rightclick to use the puppy Apprun and trashcan. I haven't used it a lot but it's here if you want to play. The modified mimelist is part of the pet. To use it, assuming you are running a pup with the traditional trashcan, do the following: Install the pet (guess I'd unpack it and do it manually the first time to see what is what). In the PCManFM preferences, uncheck the 'Move deleted files to trashcan.... On a rightclick on a file, folder, image or SFS so far (The mime list needs some work) the option to move to puppy trash should show up. Rough as it is, I am using it, currently in ZestyPup. Posted mostly just to show I didn't blow off the symlink question.

edit: Just used it a bunch more updating several pups boot files from isos and deleting older versions of the files from Zesty. Sometimes (If the list of rtclick options is long?) It shows up under 'open with'. Barking away happily so far.

Marv, your trashrightclick.pet works wonderfully in this pcmanfm filemanager. Smile

I was using "shift+del" to permanently delete a file without sending it to the Trash, however sometimes one might want to use the trashcan, just in case.

Thank you for your help, Marv.

I'm using the trashrightclick pet in Zestypup. JWMDesktop Manager there is quite dependent on roxfiler. I slightly modified the jwmdesk wrapper script in /usr/local/bin so that when running the Manager, it ensures that roxfiler is the defaultfilemanager, and when done it goes back to pcmanfm as the default. Since using pcmanfm full time there is pretty much my cup of tea, rather than add it to the pet for now, I'll just attach it here, false gz.

Edit: The rolling ZestyPup gathers no moss. As I kind of anticipated JWMDesk Manager has been pulled from 17.10.12 and ptheme is working with the current JWM and used as the primary GUI configuration tool. So, the jwmdesk wrapper attachment above is removed. I've put a similar wrapper around ptheme to switch the filemanager to roxfiler for it and switch it back when ptheme closes. After a few more Zesty versions I'll update the trashrightclick pet with it.

PostPosted: Sun 22 Oct 2017, 07:05    Post subject: PcManFm 'drag&drop' popup dialog just like ROX-Filer

Hi Festus & Marv & all,

Was wondering/hoping if you guys could help me with a brain lapse Embarassed concerning PcManFm 1.2.5 and something I modded in it but cannot now remember?

In Peebee's LxPupSc32, PcManFm comes default. I have always liked PcManFm a lot, but one thing that eternally bothered me was, unlike ROX (which is excellent in this regard), when you "drag&drop" in PcManFm a dialog box does not popup with the choices of:

Code:
Copy
Move
Create Link
Cancel

Well, some weeks, maybe months, back I started fooling with PcManFm, while also reading stuff on the web. From reading I managed to figure out how to make this ROX-like poup dialog happen in PcManFm when 'drag&dropping'. Of course I told myself I would not forget how I did it, but ..............grrrrrrr, of course I did. I have checked every pcmanfm (and libfm) file/folder---in /root/.config, in /usr/share and in /usr/lib---I can think of to see what I modded. I'll be a monkey's uncle as I cannot find what I did.

Even worse, I spent hours yesterday & today searching Google & cannot find that one blog/forum or whatever I had come across that had allowed me, or instructed me, on what to try to make this happen.

Would any of you have any idea what I did to achieve this?? Below shows an example of it; the pic is just two pcmanfm(s) open, and if I drag & drop either a file/folder/iso/savefile/ savefolder/anything, that popup dialog box (ala' ROX) is what I see when 'drag&dropping' between any two open pcmanfms:

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.....unbelievable Embarassed !!!

This whole past 48 hours I was thinking I "modded" something. I also, weeks/months ago, had to deal with keys on the keyboard & making mods to re-map them....so I must have mixed up the two.

Damn, Backi, it stinks getting old.......seems like simple stuff I think I clearly remember just some days totally slips away from me Crying or Very sad .

Thank you.

P.S. I've been playing with this (EmelFM-2) for the first time.....so far, I like it, better than SpaceFM & XFE:

Backi, my pcmanfm-master-sensei !

One more question:

What is up with pcmanfm in xenial32 (installed via PPM) not showing drives and/or partitions? It does so all other puppy builds (slacko, tahrs, zestys, ddogs, etc, etc).

I believe I have all the correct things 'check-marked". Give me direction, ole' Master Guru. Wink

Yeah, first I used Festus' .pet here to install pcmanfm, since Marv posted he installed it in Zesty and it was working great.

But when I installed it (this is Musher's Xenial32 build he just posted yesterday), pcmanfm wouldn'/didn't display the drives/partitions and usb plugins.

So, I thought to try from PPM, but ran into the same problem.

I think it has something to do with that fact that, by default, pcmanfm is constructed to not display any partition/drive or attached device when running as "root".

What I cannot figure out is why pcmanfm in other slackos, pups and such, displays it all fine, but in this version by Musher it is failing. Wonder if it has something to do with the older kernel version Musher used??

Not sure.

It's ok, just going to delete pcmanfm on this one, and stick to ROX with EmelFM-2 as the second filemanager.

Thanks again. Hope your Sunday is going good! Fred sent his flu/cold down to me, and now everyone in the house is sickie and trying to get better.
