I would check and see what cookies, from Amazon, are stored in the browser.

Delete the cookies.

I believe I have found the cause of the initial problem. Uninstalling freshplayer-plugin seems to eliminate the unexpected closure of the browsers. But, I can no longer access some sites; instead, I get the following message: "Error loading player: no playable sources".

As far as the Amazon.com issue, Amazon tech support fixed that for me.

A little further research SEEMS to have solved both problems. The version of freshplayer plugin that I removed was 0.2.3 (installed using freshplayerplugin-0.2.3.pet.

I have now replaced it with this version:

browser-plugin-freshplayer-libpdf_0.3.6-1~webupd8~trusty6_i386.deb

So far, at least, Amazon signin no longer crashes my browser, and I can view the live webcam at the Marshwalk in Murrells Inlet, SC which is what I wanted in the first place.
