Setup and seems to be working correctly.
I always use the default setup.

I check it by using ShieldsUp.

Not sure how to do it, but 01micko should be able to get this Zestypup version of Puppy, made part of the normal Puppy repository.

peebee,

Should be a way to get you permission to post to the repository.

Hi

I do already have permissions to upload to the repository.....

As is my usual behaviour, I have made ZestyPup slightly unconventionally :? I've included components from all sorts of places - not just Ubuntu and XenialPup....

So I need to think about how best to make it "woofable" by others....

There's also the Ubuntu support timescales to consider - it might be better to wait for ArtfulPup as Artful Aardvark 17.10 is due to be released 19 Oct....

SAMBA remote access:

Firewall configured to allow client access for the test. YASSM 4.1 and YASSM 2.9 (installed from local pet) work correctly and used for mounting shares to test. Throughput tested to SAMBA server (server wired, client i5 laptop wireless) comparing rsync, Rox-Filer, pcmanfm and spacefm drag/copies of a 256Mb savefile. All times match and are excellent. No problems seen on this front.

Touchpad/Flsynclient:

Touchpad setup using Flsynclient works well (With the usual behavior of 'calibration' crashing X. I see this more often than not in many different pups so I just don't do it.). Speed and pressure needed no adjustment on the i5 below. Just set up scrolling and tapping.

Lid Suspend to RAM:

Working OOTB on this computer. Unlike lxde and XFCE4, JWM needs no special attention on wake. Button mappings and touchpad come up correct on waking.

CUPS Printing:

hplip_print-3.14.10 installed from pet and with the firewall off my networked HP4500 all-in-one was found and installed ok. Printing a test page failed however with a

message. Installing the lxpupSC_print_patch-1.0 gave no change. I haven't persued this but usually it has been a ghostscript issue IIRC.

cups printing from gnumeric: invalid file name

#66 Post by charlie6 »

Hi Peebee,

see last edited hereunder

here on 17.10.4
this was also the case on earlier versions:

printing a gnumeric previewed sheet from the evince previewer returns the message
"Invalid file name"
as shown on the attachment

HTH Charlie

last edited: here is what might be a workaround only for gnumeric:
1. I first of all went to install evince-2.32-wheezy.pet from http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... wheezy.pet
2. delete or rename the existing /usr/bin/evince-previewer;
3. have done
Then printing from gnumeric/preview to a pdf file works OK.

Code: Select all

# ln -s /usr/bin/evince /usr/bin/evince-previewer

4. But Printing a text doxument from geany after CUPS printer configuration results in the same Invalid filename report.

More: if selecting in geany the print preview, then evince previewer is activated and "save a copy" works OK.

That's looks nice and tight, Bigpup! Any chance you'd consider uploading an ISO of the whole thing? Wouldn't expect/want you to support it, but I just can't get my desktop wallpaper + htop (or pprocess) integration to look like yours (and rufwoof's). Wish there was a stinking .pet I could just download and thus quickly zap any pup I wanted to turn it into a beloved 'trekkie' edition.

17.10.05 delta is available

This delta:
- fixes the ghostscript issue reported by @charlie6 and @marv
- fixes the Light icon in the menu (no change to the adrv) and gives it a better name
- adds CRDA support

Thanks to all who have tested aspects of the build - CUPS printing also seems OK from my tests.

Cheers

Hi Peebee,

Are you by chance using your SpaceFM.pet in Zesty from a few months ago? I posted a problem I am seeing here (link below), and it's happening in not only Zesty but all pups (about 6-7 so far) that I've installed & tried it in so far:

One thing, it appears SpaceFM cannot handle 'whiteout" files in a savefile when copying. Heck with it. Like early this year when trying to use it, am ditching it yet again. Was hoping problems had been fixed with it (in the new .pet) when Festus posted about it in Filesystems. I'm going back to the safe trifecta of PCmanFM/Thunar/ROX.

Sorry I can't help with testing List of things to test ??:

Scanning
FTP remote access
Webcam (pAVRecord now included)
Dual monitors
Running apps as Spot
SAMBA server
FTP server
etc.

Every one of those, except 'Running apps as Spot" and dual monitors, I completely remove from all pups. Dual monitors zero problems, works great. I've only been running browsers as Spot, and have not encountered any problems. The ZestyXFCE(s) I've done are very solid and stable for me so far, including compiling stuff.

There are some issues in pMusic running in ZestyPup. I keep tracking them. A fix is coming...

Note that the behavior of wget is different in Zesty than in Slacko. Downloading www-stuff to a file with the -O attribute will NOT overwrite existing file in Zesty.

ubuntu-zesty-universe shows up twice in the repo-list. This leads to no success when installing.

About Dual Monitors, I use to VGA connect a larger screen to my laptop. Is this the kind of «Dual Monitors» case?

If yes: got to use Zesty-17.10.02 on my HP2530-elitebook connected to a large screen, after manualy setting of xorgwizard by choosing (also manually) a correct screen resolution. My seems this to be so far rather uneasy.

HTH, Charlie (Thanks for 17.10.05 delta :) )

manual X restart to get some apps in /root/Startup runing

#80 Post by charlie6 »

Hi,
Here need, on 2 desktops and one laptop, to several times perform a manual X restart to get some apps in /root/Startup running.

Does anyone else also get this?

This happens quite at each bootup.

Not even the Startup apps don't start, but also seems that the activation of xorg.conf having the wacom tablets code options in it.

HTH Charlie
