Today I configured and compiled 4.13.3 x64 for Atom cherry trail cpu. It boots but xserver refuses connections. I searched the net for a solution but nothing worked. Does anyone know what is the problem. How to change group at cli?
The config is attached with fake gz extension.

SUKK-2_12-2017
Some really silly bugs fixed!
Stems Uattended Kernel Kit
v-12-2017
Requires minimal setting up to build and package
kernel and modules and sources.
You must load devx.sfs on puppy or have installed
development libraries such as git gcc make
for your distro.
This kit can also build official .deb packages if your OS
allows the installation of the necessary packages.
fakeroot build-essential kernel-package libssl-dev git
ncurses-dev bc linux-headers-amd64 or linux-headers-x86
Usage is simple
in term type
./nubuild.sh
For very first use I recommend using build option
'888'
and config option
'2) make menuconfig'
Then configure kernel features for your system
This will ensure your configs are up to date
and appropriately configured. Presently the configs
will be for a specfic hardware I was testing.
Follow the prompts.
Packages will be in 'dist/packages64' etc
Use at your own risk, no warranty or liability accepted.

Today I rebuilt a kernel 4.14.12 for Atom CherryTrail cpu and 4.14.6 for FatDog 720 with support for more ext filesystems and virtualisation.
My version of nubuild was full of errors! So I sorted them out.

SUKK update
Just the main nubuild.sh and configs.
Aufs-utils has moved from sourceforge and is now https://github.com/Lax/aufs-util if you use a previous version of SUKK and do not want to change to this version which works quite differently then simply update the aufs_utils_git variable with the above url, otherwise an ssl certificate error will occur, if I am not mistaken.
nope ... I thought it was fixed ... !

Before venturing into the Weeds |

Hi stemsee,
I've downloaded, decompressed and examined SUKK-2_12-2017.tar.gz which you attached to your post of 29 Dec 2017. Perhaps like everything else: before you wander into the weeds, it seems pretty straight forward. Still, I have a couple of “dumb questions”.
From the “Read Me”, I know I need “ devx.sfs on puppy or have installed development libraries such as git gcc make for your distro.” And, at least at the outset, a working internet connection.
Am I correct in guessing that the actual building will take place in folders within the SUKK folder – for example, the initially empty “dist” folder?
Does it matter where the SUKK folder is located? In /root? Or [if /mnt/home is a Linux Formatted partition] can it be located on /mnt/home with PERHAPS (?) nubuild.sh symlinked to somewhere “on the path”?
If in /root, how much RAM + swap is recommended?
If /mnt/home is possible, how much hard-drive space is recommended?
Your last post stated:
“SUKK update

Sorry, you've kind of lost me. No update of nubuild.sh and configs was attached. Did you do an update by replacementing the SUKK package you had attached to 29 Dec 2017 post? Was it attached to the 21 Jan 2018 post and then withdrawn because the link wasn't fixed? If so, would I be better off using “a previous version of SUKK” by “updating the aufs_utils_git variable to https://github.com/Lax/aufs-util ?
In the 29 Dec 2017 build of SUKK's nubuild.sh, this appears at line 14: “aufs_utils_git=git://git.code.sf.net/p/aufs/aufs-util”*. Is that the line requiring modification in that build? Should I look for a line at a similar location in prior builds? Are there any other lines requiring modification in that or prior builds to handle the relocation of Aufs-utils?
Thanks in advance.
mikesLr
* Well that line doesn't appear to reflect the changed auf-utils location. Has it been changed again?

Hi mikeslr
Sorry to cause confusion...the update seemed to be fine, but later I found the packages built were incomplete, so I removed the posted file.
Subsequently I found hard drive errors!! So any previous version should be ok.
Yes the packages will be build in dist/packages suffixed with arch 'x64' etc
The kernel directory grows to about 1.2gb during compilation, it seems. So probably 1.5gb of hdd space or free ram if in home on a frugal install.
Your proposal of symlinkng ubuild.sh in path should be ok ... DryFalls prepared a SUKK package in a similar fashion.
I havenot got time to test it ... so try it out and report back if you can.
cheers

Whatever your distro I can heartily recommend BK's kernel-4.14.17 x64 from Quirky-8.4 . I exported it with relevant files for use on FatDog with my HP x2 cherrytrail tablet, and it is the best one so far!
It boots from and searches the MTD mmcblk0p0 memory storage devices and finds basesf and savefiles etc. The only thing that might improve it is the addition of staging drivers compiled in. Once I get the sources I'll have a look.

I just re-compiled 4.14.17 from BK's patched source. I reconfigured the kernel. The result is that my cherry tail tablet has working sdhci card reader. soundcard is up but not working yet. cpu is about 30% faster on tests.

Hi all
Last night I compiled 4.14.20 twice and also 4.15.4. The middle compilation came out very good, better than expected. I compiled it primarily for my cherrytrail tablet. The noticeable imporvement was mainly to do with the sdcard and usb 2/3 devices. By compiling in the usb 3 Xhci and compiling the usb 2 and 1 drivers as modules the tablet now reliably recognises sdcard reader, and usb 3 thumbdrives ... actually only some usb 3 and 2 drives, but so much better than before. Also I got bluetooth working on my brcm43142 wifi/bt card. On tests the kernel is significantly faster. Toucscreen seems more reliable, more quickly recognising pinch to zoom. Cpu temps and thermal stuff is registering. Only the webcam (conexant) and the battery, and the soundcard remain problematic, but there is a soundcard, just no sound.
I will post the config if anyone wants it.
cheers

So 4.14.20 x64 on Asus T101HA is an improvement too.

seems kernel sources and aufs directories are deleted too early, resulting in an empty kernel sources sfs and aufs not patched into kernel modules sfs. Lately, even with older nubuild script, been intermittent as to whether kernel headers get into the kernel modules package. Been doing it manually. I'm thinking maybe the problem is running the program around midnight (my time) so get-date later in script disagrees with the date on the downloaded file (ie, pre and post-midnight have different dates). Make sense?
Also, build and source symlinks in /lib/modules/... should point to /usr/src/linux, not the extracted SUUK directory.
