I know there's already loads of different utilities out there.....mostly command line. I don't mind using the command-line, but I know there are those (like myself!) who find a graphical representation of this kind of thing easier to 'take in'.
One of the tools presented in the article was this one, called JDiskReport, from an outfit called JGoodies, who specialise in Java stuff:-

Now, I certainly wouldn't recommend you use rerwin's excellent GetJava utility just for this one, small app.....but if you already have Java/IcedTea installed for some other purpose, then this is an excellent way to take advantage of it. Despite its diminutive size (less than 1MB), I've packaged it up as an SFS, complete with Menu entry (to be found under Menu->Filesystem). It can therefore be loaded/unloaded as & when you want it.
It's rather similar to Baobab in concept; you can change representations from pie-chart to 'radial-rings' to bar, amongst other stuff, and analyze pretty much every part of your file-system.....including the Out house sink! (Probably...
). It's quite comprehensive for this kind of thing.
Apparently, I have somewhere in excess of 2,000,000 files + on my system.....I had no idea I'd got so much 'junk' kicking around under foot..!
