Ryzen 1700 with Asus Taichi motherboard

I recently became the most fortunate owner of one of those fancy Ryzen CPUs. It's amazing, compiled the Linux kernel in less than 30 minutes, used to take me at least an hour.

However due to the newness of the platform it requires a newer kernel to be at its best, and it also seems to suffer from an issue with GPIO pins. Kept getting random freezes on XenialPup 64 so I compiled the 4.12.4 kernel as suggested by this post with select GPIO settings turned off.

Thought if anyone else ends up using Ryzen and Xenialpup they might find the kernel useful.

Also props to the work being done on the Kernel-kit! It's much easier to use than before so thank you team!

I have been watching the Ryzen's progress. I figure that if I can get a Thread Ripper, the videos of cats I watch will be a lot funnier and my posts on the Puppy Linux forum will be a lot more insightful.

Seriously, that thing brings what would have not that many years ago have been considered a super computer within the reach of the mere mortal. I could easily see a "Scientific Puppy" with Octave, Kicad, gnuspice and a few more getting an audience.

It's nice to compile with, the speed is really sweet. Ripped a DVD the other day and was surprised it was done in only a few minutes instead of say an hour.

On a down note, I still get random freezes, will have to look back into this again, but for anyone else using XenialPup, it's a nice kernel upgrade if they want to give it a shot.
