It is said that using a service for free means you ultimately are the product, so using free version of Windscribe may put you at risk of being monitored one way or the other.

Free version is limited to 10 GB of data, 1 connection and 8 locations and you need to provide a valid email address. Seemingly, free service is paid for by their pro version ($9.00/month with unlimited data, unlimited connections and 45+ locations). So for occasional user, free service is a rather good deal.

Moreover, they provide repositories for Ubuntu and Debian but limited to 64-bit OS :

If you use Ubuntu (and derivatives) 14.04 up to 17.04, you are provided with a repository, as well as Debian 8 and 9 (and derivatives).

Note : Dog-based OS is the target OS (if you still wonder at this point).

You are asked to create a free account, then do the following in terminal for 16.04 :

You must create a free account to use Windscribe addon. Installing it without being a registered user means you don't have VPN service.

Use temporary email services like mailinator.com, mytrashmail.com, etc. While creating a free Windscribe account it will send a verification email, here we receive the mail in temporary email. Just verify the mail, that's it. Your free account is ready.

Need not give original mail id's.
