Due to some room re-purposing I have to move a PC which had access to a wired connection to another area and need to use wireless. I downloaded the relevant Windows 7 driver and it works with W10 installed on the HDD but when booting Puppy 4.3.1 from USB I cannot get any generic driver or any auto-probed option to work. FYI - booting from USB + wired worked fine.
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices does show:
S: Manufacturer=Atheros Communications Inc
S: Product=WG111T
S: SerialNumber=1.0
and more importantly:
I: ... Driver=(none)
So Puppy does see the device - can anyone advise if there is a driver or package I can download to get it to work ? Obviously I'll have to take the PC back to the old location and use a wired connection to do that.
Thanks !

I've got the 2.1 download which is for W7 that worked for W10 - using that with the ndiswrapper option it raises an error that its not a valid .inf file/driver.watchdog wrote:Is there the windows XP driver of your wireless? You can use the ndiswrapper driver in linux...
I have downloaded 1.2 which is circa XP so will try that/need to uninstall 2.1 first.
A few posts.
The last one has a driver someone might compile for you etc.

You do understand how to setup a wireless network connection?

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

If this computer is capable of running Win10, why are you using Puppy 431? Or messing with ndiswrapper?
Newer Puppies like Tahr605 appear to have this driver (ar5523) built-in.
[Edit] It looks like Tahr605 is missing the firmware file ar5523.bin. However, Precise571 has both the driver and the firmware.

I've been on an old pup as it worked so had no need to change it.rcrsn51 wrote:If this computer is capable of running Win10, why are you using Puppy 431? Or messing with ndiswrapper?

I noticed the Netgear download for 1.2 was actually the 2.0 driver so it was still for W7 and not XP. I was able to search Netgear's site to get 1.3 which was for XP and then made some progress. But it was still frustrating as I only got to connect twice out of many attempts (upwards of 12).
Seeing your post this morning, I updated my USB flash drive boot to 5.7.1 and it all works and on repeated reboots as well. So thank you for the advice that 5.7.1 has the ar5523 driver built in (and to all who replied on other suggestions).
