TrinityDog - Jessie & Stretch

#1 Post by fredx181 »

*** TrinityDog, Jessie & Stretch versions 32-bit ***

See also at TrinityDog

See here for Bugs and Fixes Information

TrinityDog is a fork of "DebianDog" (info and credits Here) with a basic Trinity Desktop Environment
History
The TDE project began as a continuation of the K Desktop Environment (KDE) version 3. The name Trinity was chosen partly because the word means "three" and TDE was a continuation of KDE 3. TDE now is its own computer desktop environment project.

A Jessie test version was earlier shared already Here

Full access to Debian repositories by using apt-get (from terminal) or from Synaptic Package Manager (GUI)

Specifications:
Jessie kernel version: 3.16.0-4-686-pae
Stretch kernel version: 4.9.0-3-686-pae
Choice of Boot Methods: porteus-boot and live-boot , see options Here (except live-boot-2 which is not supported)
File Managers - Thunar and Konqueror.
(Thunar is recommended because of more support for right-click custom actions)
Internet Browser - QtWeb (and Konqueror). (thanks to OscarTalks for QtWeb pet)
(included the light (although outdated) browser QtWeb to keep the size of the ISO smaller, and most people will install a browser of choice anyway, e.g. Firefox))
NetworkManager for Stretch version is Ceni, Jessie version has Frisbee.

Hi All,

As stated in the first post the Stretch version has included Network manager "Ceni", it's ncurses based.
(replaced Frisbee with it because Frisbee was rather slow connecting after boot)
To make a wired connection I had to configure it first and connection persists for me at reboot.
So I'm not sure how that is for others, you may need to configure it first to get a wired connection (it might depend on your network card, not sure).

Hi Fred!

Downloaded everything (both Trinity versions), and am currently playing with the "Stretch" version.

Quite nice! Trinity definitely has a lot of qualities to like about it....still figuring them all out at the moment. For one, the "Trinity Control Center" is quite the eye-opener, it takes XFCE-abilities and ratchets things up a notch or two.

Upon first boot up pristine, everything worked great. Then I started playing around, and I must have broken something already. Truthfully, all I did was activate the "Global Configuration" (in system tool bar tray) for control of my dual monitors. After activating it, the 2nd monitor went to sh!t. Instantly two things happened:

1) I lost the conky, which now will not restart or start at all no matter what. This is weird because it was working great and clear on first boot up, and:

2) It took one of my monitors (both monitors are identical) and now the colors are smearing and fading on the non-primary monitor--they are just messed up like crazy. Before I activiated the "Global Configuration" both monitor desktops backgrounds and colors were perfect in clarity and trueness.

So, I will keep playing around and see if i can fix it. If you've got any hints, let me know (yes, I already tried "deactivating 'Global Configuration' to go back to the way it was upon first boot, but no lool---my 2nd monitor is completely messed up now).

The conky thing is what really is flustering, as what would be preventing it from running once a use selects "Global Configuration" out of the system tray?? If I could figure this out, I could then understand what's going on with the 2nd monitor & why it is so messed up.

Here's a pic of what everything looks, using one of the backgrounds included (same background on each monitor):

(P.S. Also, upon 1st boot, it found my "wired" net connection with no help from me, setting it up automatically)

UPDATE: just posted this, and the scrot pic the system took shows my 2nd monitor (the right one) as being perfect. NO IT IS NOT! Here on my desktop, it is tearing, colors are inverted & smeared, and it generally looks like Walt Disney went on a LSD binge  .....so what's going on if scrot is saying it is perfect? I've had no LSD...today...or ever, lol)

Hi Fred hi everybody !

Tested the older Jessie Dog with Trinity Desktop before.......found it quite cool .
Trinity Desktop is way more flexible/configurable than Openbox or Jwm....IMHO....It uses a little bit more ram.....but not much.

Will download and start testing .
Regards
