There's a rat in your network!

#1 Post by musher0 »

Hi guys.

Apparently, rats love the soya-derived component covering ethernet cables.

The computer network at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Canada, was
down for several hours because University rats had had a great lunch!

Have fun! :)

I believe it. I work with rubber and some actually smells like bubble gum. The more chemical resistant rubber has a strong cinnamon smell .

I bought one of those high speed phone charger cables one time and the cat chewed it up like it was candy coated.

Well, that's quite a turnaround - for once, rodents are actually attacking the cat(5)! :)

It is a well known problem in the larger computer world. Rats and mice survive well in the false floors and chew though cables and coolant pipes.

I remember one night when I was called in to sort out a failed program.
When I turned up people were rushing around a bit more than usual. At that company the computer room was in the centre of the building surrounded by offices and a couple of corridors with glass walls. The local name for it was "the goldfish bowl". Anyway, when I turned up I was told the information I needed was still on the back of a printer, and I, perfectly innocently, asked if I could go and fish it out. Litlle did I know that they had just raised the false floor and found two foot of water in the cable runs. It took me a couple of weeks to convince them that it was not a deliberate comment.
