Windows Phone 8 Nokia Lumia 520 - works with puppy Subject description: Just in case compatibility is putting you off! |
|
I've owned my nokia lumia for about 5 months now and haven't connected it to a windows pc yet (i rarely use anything but puppy).
Apparently to save costs, these phones use the mpt storage protocol which means they aren't seen as a flash drive etc.
Luckily in Puppy, we have PupCamera which, when you plug in the phone, pops up and lets you access the phone memory and the sd card!
This lets you copy stuff from phone to pc but also lets you copy from pc to phone too.
The first time I tried this, it came up with a load of errors and even though it had appeared to copy over, my phone wouldn't show the album I had just copied.
That is until a couple of hours later when it miraculously appeared in the album list.
Thats obviously a WP8 'feature' i guess.
Now I just copy over and quickly reboot my phone and whatever I copied over is ready to use, a little clunky i agree but it works!
Hope this helps someone

It would seem that I can also access my Iphone 3 the same way. As soon as I plugged it into my pc the puppy camera aplication popped up. All I can see is my photos in the camera1 folder the other folders are empty well I cant see anything in them. Would be nice to find the music folder that way i can add songs to it.
Puppy precise 5.7.1 Fatty

Precise 5.6.1 but mtp is an old format so I would expect it to work with any puppy with pupcamera

Okay U probably have figured this out like - ages ago. But:
I also have a windowsphone (and really love it) (oh and I upgraded to win 10 from 8.1 today)
and PupCamera didnt work for me. (menu--graphic--pupCamera digital camera access) Nothing showed up.
BUT:
http://helledussen.com/linux/pets/CamPhoneTab-1.5.pet (I mirrored it, found in the repos probably)
works great !
I just thaught I would post this - in case anybody else have problems with connecting a windowsphone to puppy.
To use (after install) - just connect your windowsphone via mini usb cable
Click Menu--Filesystem--CamPhoneTab USB Interface
Choose "Camera" (default) in "connection mode" - click "connect" and then "view"
Then two folders show up - If you've chosen to save pics to the sd-card (like me) click on "store_0002.." or else "store_0001.."
And u can copy/view - yeah.
And for all I know - same goes for android phones
Great little .pet
(edit 7 aug 2017: I HATE windowsphone 10. Went back to 8.1 using the windows device recovery tool. Now my phone is snappy and happy again)

There is an updated version of CamPhoneTab here.
However, this latest release isn't attracting much interest. It may not last long.

Lumia 520 ? But it's my model.. Topic bookmarked, for later translation FR
http://helledussen.com/linux/pets/CamPhoneTab-1.5.pet forbidden 403
CamPhoneTab-1.5.3.pet: 1073 K from mediafire
Next step, come back soon
That is perfect ! with Lumia 520
Doing the same with my Nokia C2, this one can be in your pocket without risk of break. Old harware, for Globe Trotters
So easy, even with Nokia C2

Excellent. This is why CamPhoneTab abandoned plug-and-play auto-detection. You have a better chance of getting your device recognized using a simpler "manual" procedure.
But people love their plug-and-play. Clicking a desktop icon is too much work for them.
