Actually I've just Discovered wot the issue is, I was rather oblivious of the Demands Quick-Remaster Process mksquashfs places on the CPU 100%, So I had 2 Do the Remaster on a Slightly More Modern & Higher Spec PC, it went thru the eNtire Process & Completed the iso, which I'm about 2 Test, But I might yet need 2 Do it again 1 More Time!

Hi Max !
Regarding :
Dont know if you installed Vlc -
or using a Vlc-Module generated with ApT0Sfs (in Menu>Module Tools ) and activated .
Both works for me when :
Made a small script :
sed -i 's/geteuid/getppid/' /usr/bin/vlc
vlc
Save it as ( for Example ) Run Vlc .
Make it executable .
When Vlc installed or Vlc_Module activated ........simply click the executable Script above ........wait a moment ......Vlc will probably start .........
So it does for me .

Has to do with running Vlc as Root .But perhaps more concerning is VLC, Application eXecution Error... Any ideas? Please

Hi Max !
If you installed Vlc with Synaptic it will not start because you are running as Root .
There for this script will start Vlc .
Make this small script with Leafpad or Geany :
sed -i 's/geteuid/getppid/' /usr/bin/vlc
vlc
name it "Run Vlc" (for Example )
save it in Root.
Make it executable .
I assume i you know how to do it .
If not.... look with Rox-filer for this Script
left Mouse-Click on Script> Menu>Properties> Permissions >>check Exec >>>>> refresh (now it should change appearance and will be executable)
Just click the executable script in Root to make installed Vlc start .

Not that I know of any offical Ubuntu non-pae kernel, but you can try adding "forcepae" (without quotes) to your kernel boot commandline.Max wrote:G'day FredX181, is there a No PAE Version of the Ke*nel, How Hard is it 2 Mod & Swap & Wot might it Break? etc So that I Can Run & install this on Centrino & Older CPUs, Thanx!
Works for me on my old thinkpad x40 (with no pae capable cpu)
Good chance it works for you also.
Fred
Hi Max !
If you can not find an Application in E17 ,you could try out " Run Everything" .... its in Menu.
This Everything Starter (it`s like Whisker Menu in Xfce )it can also be invoked with ALT+ESC .......or add it to a Shelf .( go Shelf>Contents>check Everything Starter click >add Gadged ).
Quite convenient .
Invoke it....... type in some Letters of Application you are looking for ......test it for yourself .
You say you lost some Items in Menu when using E17.
Maybe try this :
Go Menu> Settings>Settings Panel>Menu>Menu Settings>Applications>check Dog Applications .....apply ...restart Desktop .

G'day Again FredX181 or Backi, Back 2 the Centrino which is a 2003 Toshiba Portege M200, 1.6 GHz, 2 GB RAMemory, This is in Fact My Personal Keeper & Linux Demo ( Show Off ) Laptop, Altho it Dual Boots w/ M$ Windows 7 Virus Bait! This is also Fairly Funky in that it's an Early Convertible Touch Screen Tablet ( w/ a Stylus, that I've Lost & Never Used in that Function ), But it doesn't have an Optical Dr, So I have 2 Used an eXternal USB Optical 2 Boot & install, which they're Famously Fussy about, But I got Lucky! ( Btw it doesn't Boot from USB Flash Dr )
Anyway, because I've Done a Frugal install on an NTFS File System I Can't have the /casper/changes Folder & Get the Message 2 Use the Porteus Save File Manager, But I can't find it, Not Even in the Everything Starter!?! indeed Yes this is Me ReMastered / Customized E17 installation.
Sorry if I'm a pain?

Hi fred !
Not sure if it can boot from a NTFS Partition ..........maybe somebody knows .
Why not use Save Folder ( because of NTFS ???)...
If Save Folder possible on NTFS maybe make Boot menu.lst look like this :
title Xenial Dog1 - porteus-boot - save on EXIT changes=/XENIALDOG1/changes folder
find --set-root /XENIALDOG1/casper/vmlinuz
kernel /XENIALDOG1/casper/vmlinuz from=/XENIALDOG1 noauto forcepae changes=EXIT:/XENIALDOG1/casper/ ramsize=100%
initrd /XENIALDOG1/casper/initrd1.xz

Hi Max !
No experience with Grub .
This one seems to work for Gub4Dos:
Here some links with Boot Methods :
https://github.com/DebianDog/xenialdog/wiki
https://github.com/DebianDog/xenialdog/ ... rteus-boot
Some Example for Save file instead of Save Folder ....from the links above :
Me thinks maybe try booting with this first >>>>
This way of saving changes is equivalent of “pupmode=13

G'day Guys, this is wot I mean...
A Windows filesystem (FAT, NTFS ) or other non-posix compatible filesystem has been detected on /casper/.
Your changes cannot be saved directly to the specified storage media with this setup. Please use the 'Porteus save file manager' to create a .dat container and use it for saving your changes after your next reboot.
Press eNter to continue in 'Always Fresh' mode 4 this session
Sorry Again I Tried Attaching a JPeg taken by Me Ph & it Failed Again!

Hi Reread my post again from above .......
Use :
title XenialDog porteus-boot save on EXIT in /casper/changes.dat file (sda1)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /casper/vmlinuz noauto from=/ changes=EXIT:/casper/changes.dat
initrd /casper/initrd1.xz
So it does work for me ......but dont know if it does from NTFS ....

Hi Max,
If I understand well this is about how to create savefile changes.dat ?
Sorry, my mistake, "Create Save" should be in the Menu, but I forgot to add it to /usr/share/applications
3 ways to achieve the same (to create savefile):
1) Fix the missing "Create Save" entry in the Menu (copy from /root/tint2launchers)
And run "Create Save" from menu (in Category: Accessoiries on openbox, may be different in E17)
2) Run the script '/usr/bin/makepfile.sh' and choose size and place where to create the savefile (probably for you in /mnt/sda1/casper)
3) Create savefile "changes.dat" directly from commandline, open a terminal in your casper folder (e.g. /mnt/sda1/casper) and do:
If you created changes.dat in the casper folder (and casper is on the root of the partition) the changes parameter should be:
Or for save on exit:
Hope this helps.
EDIT: On NTFS you do need a save file, because save to folder doesn't work (only if you have/create a linux (ext2/3/4) partition and point changes=/... to a folder you created there)
EDIT2: To clarify more, say you create a extra linux partition , e.g. sda2
Then create a folder e.g. xendogsave on that linux partition, and make the changes parameter:
If it's a unique name it will be found and used.
