You have heard of Kodibuntu -- Here is Kodipup.

Post updated July 2, 2017.

Kodipup is derived from xenialpup64.

Boots up immediately into Kodi 17.6

Now you can watch your shows in puppy linux!

Support for the Vista MCE VRC-1100 remote.

Very good & inexpensive remote with mouse controls.

Fixed up the keytable so all VRC-1100 remote buttons work.

Switched the volume and channels buttons around.

Now the volume buttons works smoothly, with out having to continuously
keep pressing the volume buttons.

On the desktop, pressing the green start button, brings up kodi.

In kodi, pressing the green start button, brings up video addons.

Top Left button takes you to the home page.

Yellow button brings up favorites.

Blue button brings up your Radio Channels.

Green button brings up your music library.

Power button brings up exit.

Now you can use the middle mouse button as a volume control.

Added support for direct pasting, using ctrl-v.

Fixed the addon update problem.

New version has the following additions:

Added audio New Testament World English Bible.

Added audio version of Pilgrams Progress.

Added two video addons: Evidence that demands a verdict & Billy Graham Sermons.

Added the Xiphos bible program to it.

Fixed the volume problems.

On first boot up, kodipup sets the time zone & time automatically.

Fixed pClock Alarm so it can play a mp3 or ogg in a loop forever.

On bootup, kodipup waits for an interrnet connection, then brings up kodi.

This was a nice surprise to see that somebody has finally done a kodi specific derivative. Downloaded and looking forward to trying it out in the next couple of days.

Kodipup

Not having the skills to write the code I have been waiting for this or a update to the current 16 version, I downloaded this and burned it to a USB after finding the save file, it bombs out on me. Has anyone else had this experience?

lassar,
very interesting!

Downloading it now.

Kodi is of particular interest to me right now, as I have just compiled it in OpenEmbedded, see my recent blog posts:

http://barryk.org/news/

I have never used kodi before. I understand that it doesn't work with a window manager (such as jwm)?
Could it be run in a window in jwm? -- or at least be able to switch between the two?

I was wondering about doing a build of the packages compiled in OpenEmbedded, with kodi as the media player. But it would have to play nice with jwm and normal windowed apps.

Anyway, I am looking forward to playing with your Kodipup!

Been doing some more research on kodi.

Kodi seems to have ssl problems in tahrpup64 6.05.

Using zenailpup, does not give me as many errors in the log.

So I think I will redo kodipup using zenialpup64 as my base.

It will run in a window. I accidentally discovered it. Hit "\" to switch between windowed and full screen modes.

EDIT: Lassar, this is really cool.

Interesting. I tried it but it kept hanging.
I get the feeling it could be better than Kodibuntu-I don't like having to log out and back in to get anywhere unlike Kodipup

On a UK keyboard it seems to be either the \ (immediately left of 'z') or # (immediately left and to the bottom of the ENTER) keys that window/full-screen toggles kodi ... depending upon which version of kodi you're running.

If you install a advanced-launcher addon ... I used a normal PC session to download a .zip file from here (can't speak for the security issues of installing that)

and then system, addons, install from zip ... install that addon within kodi

Then you can create launchers within kodi to launch programs/commands

I set one up as a 'linux' choice so now opening Programs, Advanced Launcher inside of kodi I have a selectable launcher to start up leafpad, which when selected opens up leafpad

Quicker and perhaps safer to just drop out of kodi and launch programs more directly ... but in some cases I guess being able to launch say the likes of skype from within kodi might be a better/easier choice ... perhaps a limited input device for instance (pointer and select only remote control).

We (as in a family i.e. mostly down to the kids), have one of these
Image
along with one of these
Image
as a second remote controller (in addition to the one that comes with the above) that has a nice touchpad and full keyboard to navigate (mouse) and type with from the armchair.

That's operational on the main TV (large screen, but not a smart TV).

Mostly I use a tower PC with a 32 inch TV as the monitor. The two kids each have their own desktop PC's as well in the living room (along with tons of other stuff such as Playstations ...etc in their bedrooms).

They're both Windoze desktop users, I'm the sole family Linux desktop user :(

Kodi plays nice with window managers.

Yes you can do alt tab.

It will also run without a window manager.

A little tricky to get every thing working just right.

Thanks Lassar, this is good. Was having a play with LibreElec but wanted a usb pendrive with Kodi and a bit more. Have actually got a lot more thanks to all the hard work that has been put into Puppy.
I have the same setup as rufwoof connected to the television but Kodipup allows me to try out stuff on the laptop before putting it on the Nexbox. The A95X handles Kodi really well and has a large external hard drive connected which carries all my photos, videos and music, so I can see a slideshow of my holiday snaps whilst listening to '70s rock.

kodipup-ver-5.2j-xenial64.iso is out.

kodipup-ver-5.2j-xenial64.iso is out.

The last kodipup had a bug in that using the Vista MCE VRC-1100 remote
pressing the green start button in kodi would bring up another kodi program.

So you could end up with multiple kodi programs running.

Also I think I finally got the firewall to come up automatically.

Hello,

I'm a Linux newbie and decided to try this build with Virtualbox 5.1.30 (on Windows). I performed a full install on a 10gb ext4 partition in a virtual hard disk. Most things (including Kodi) work fine, but I have a couple of problems:

1) The mouse movement is erratic
2) I can't set the resolution

I figured that maybe I need to install Virtualbox extensions to solve both these problems, so I followed this guide: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=81705

But there is a problem: When I click on the "VBoxLinuxAdditions.run" file in the VBoxGuestAdditions.iso in order to perform the installation, I get this message:

"Not enough space left in /tmp (0 Kb) to decompress /mnt/+root+.usr+share+virtualbox+VBoxGuestAdditions.iso/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run (7852KB). Consider setting TMPDIR to a directory with more free space."

I have set the enviromental variable TMPDIR to another directory I created, but it makes no difference. How can I overcome this and complete the installation ?

Thanks

Frankly I have no idea why you are having trouble with virtualbox.

Why don't you dualboot your hardrive using lick v1.2.

Or use rufus and install it to a thumbnail drive to boot off of.

Well, it all started with the idea of watching Kodi while doing other stuff too on an old computer that runs Windows XP. So dual boot or USB-boot wouldn't be practical in this case. Kodi does work fine, I think the only problem is the installation of Virtualbox Guest additions. I wonder why Pup doesn't have enough disk space to decompress the iso image, when the disk is mostly empty.
