Adobe Flash sucks

Not sure where to post this.
Ive tried several distros of Linux and a couple Puppies. Installed Tahrpup a couple years ago and felt like it was the best. Still feel that way.
What I hate is Flash. Seems like all the sites I go to use it and it gets updated constantly. Cant they just leave it alone??
OK, rant over. Thanks to all the people that keep Puppy going. You rock !!

I have an sfs of Flash 10.3.183.90 and one of Flash 23 beta, and just load them temporarily when I need Flash. They don't bug me to upgrade, or at least the 10.3 one never did... so I just keep those versions instead of 11.2 or the latest.

Like YouTube, hopefully everyone will move on and start using HTML5.

Even though I produce the PepperFlash series of .pets for various browsers, like you I too will be glad to see the back of the darned thing. The day the web moves in its entirety to using HTML5 will be a good day for me..!

However, you can automate the process somewhat now. There's Geoffrey's Flash Auto-Updater:-

...which works for the NPAPI version, and has been around for a year or so. Also, we now have a script which will do the same thing for PepperFlash.....courtesy of our Russian colleague, sfs. I've tested this thoroughly, and it works flawlessly.....downloading the appropriate version for your architecture. I've explained how to automate this one, here:-

Thanks for all the replies. At least I am not alone in my thinking. Will look at the downloads after the hollidays, since I am not that experienced at typing commands in the terminal that may take a while.

Just a bit of advice concerning the Adobe Flash Player update for Linux 24.0.0.1, it is designed to fail on DRM content, which makes it pretty useless for such nefarious activities as viewing BBC news.

I'd say Adobe is determined to kill this software.

I believe you're right, prehistoric.

From what I can gather from various blogs on the subject, Adobe are going to start winding down Flash development in the next 18 months or so...and this is despite recommending everyone to use Chrome instead. They're actually pushing some kind of proprietary API which interfaces with HTML5.....(??)

"Despite updating Flash Player for Linux to the same version number as its Windows and Mac alternatives, the Linux variant still lags behind on features.

While Flash Player 24 includes all the security features included in the Windows and Mac versions, the Linux version doesn't support accelerated GPU 3D acceleration and video DRMs.

Just like in 2012, Adobe is still recommending users to install Chrome for Linux if they need these features, where the Pepper Flash plugin has been kept up to date on all platforms and is on par with the original Flash Player software package.

Out of the frying-pan, and into the fire, perhaps? Perhaps it's time to update the PepperFlash 'Freshplayerplugin' by Rinat Ibragimov, which allows you to use Pepper with the Mozilla-based browsers...

I have been running without Adobe and JAVA for over a year now.
The Question is do you really need them?

I found them to be not needed for my everyday computing needs.

I haven't used Java in years. But I still occasionally need Flash and control it with this tray applet.

You can set the browser to activate flashplayer only after asking you at need.

I am going to have a look at the sites I use. Not sure if they are using Java and Flash. Since I stopped using Firefox and started using Palemoon, I have had little or no problems.

I agree.
Seamonkey and Tor browsers work fine as well; no audio issues.
