How about a family tree showing every Puppy version?

#1 Post by puppytahruser »

Most of the new member who come to puppy get confused which puppy to use. If we have puppy tree from begining to now (including test version) then newcomer will get an idea which one to use (i.e stable one) and which for testing. It will also reflect that there is lot of activity going on to improve puppy linux day by day (not too old as puppysite or wiki showing ). This tree can be placed in puppy site or in wiki so that anyone can see when its started, how the development done and how current acctivities going on in just one tree pic. Its my suggestion, what all of you think on that.

Suggestion for puppy tree

#2 Post by ETP »

Hi puppytahruser,

Thanks for your post. I entirely agree that selection is confusing for new users and your tree idea is a good one.

IMHO anyone visiting the index page of this Puppy Forum site (murga-linux.com/puppy/) would have a devil of a job

ascertaining what is official, beta or experimental as there is no list of official Pups and no obvious link to the

Puppy Linux official site which does list them. (puppylinux.com)

All too frequently new users start with a beta, a derivative or an experimental Pup such as the Quirky series.

Again IMHO, they should start out with an official Pup which will provide them with the least difficulty together with maximum help and support.

A tree is available on the Puppy Linux official site: http://puppylinux.com/family-tree.html

You may wish to PM 01micko with a view to adding your own version.

The solution I venture, is a new prominent sticky entry on the index page of this site which only need need contain a link to the official site.

Thank you ETP. The link you given for the pup tree, its exactly what i was looking for. Its show how it start, what development is done and we can also predict where its going to be in future just in one pic. It can help the newcomer to understand which puppy to chose. And i totaly agree with your solution. :)
