Introducing BarelyPup-2.13-0.1

The pup_213.sfs is 26MB
The 'standard' zdrv_213.sfs is 16MB
The whole iso is 44MB

I've made an unleashed Puppy 2.13 with almost all of the applications removed, so you could say that this is 'barely a Puppy' Wink

However, I've included all the basic files needed to run a normal JWM desktop using either Xorg or Xvesa.

Just use 'Network wizard' to connect to the net, 'Puppy package manager' to add your favorite apps and then run 'Dougal enhanced remaster CD' to make your own iso file out of it. Smile

There are no icons on the screen and the menu only shows the few remaining applications. I've added a nice abstract blue background.

These are the main applications left:

- Rxvt
- Gtkfind
- Zmixer
- Leafpad
- vi
- Rox-Filer
- MUT

and only necessary setup programs and wizards including:

- Network wizard
- Puppy package manager
- Puppy universal installer
- Dougal enhanced remaster CD

Please note that this very basic version of Puppy is not meant to be run 'as is' but will need pupget packages for some functions to work, e.g. CD/DVD burning, grub, etc.

Please check the attached list of included packages to see if BarelyPup is what you want to use.

Back to the basics. A simply wonderful iso that defiantly barks in the face of its more bloated litter mates.

Ran fine on my desktop PIII box, as well as the PII laptop ... so well, in fact, that I zeroed out the lappy HD and did a full install. Impressed with the memory footprint ... very small.

Only complaints are the broken link to Murga's old addy for adding programs and the torturously slow PETget package manager, neither of which are yours to own.

A hearty two thumbs up, Pakt! Simply EXCELLENT!

Nah this will be quite useful for me, I'm probably going to make a wine optimized puppy, I've had this idea for quite some time and now that someone wants it, it's inspiring Wink

What I would suggest is a simple wizard or web installer (this might even be pupget - which is sped up in 2.14)
something like this which is just html (remove "" at top and bottom of code and rename index.html and call from browser - I assume you are using one?)

This is just great, been waiting for a stripped down version like thisto add just what I want, Im sure a lot of ppl will be pleased with this.

Would be great if there was a one with just icewm as the wm or fluxbox or xcfe.

I'm having so much fun with this version on my laptop, I just may have to dump 2.11 on the desktop box and rebuild anew with BarelyPup.

We all have our personal preferences, however this wonderful version "is what it is" - nothing more, nothing less. It's Paul's benevolent deconstruction of Barry's masterpiece and is the perfect middle ground between command-line-only and full-blown distros. It's spartan package list is made more comfortable with a clean and lean GUI.

Please lets not demand it be made into something it clearly was not meant to be, nor should be.

Like so many others I'm having fun with BarelyPup. I have added some necessary PupGets and other stuff (a browser, a word processor) and remastered, I think, according to directions.
One problem: The CD player doesn't release like a normal puppy, and I can't unmount it with MUT. Did I do something wrong in the remastering? What?
