Thanks for the welcome, Semme and Fossil.

Are you saying 605 won't boot with Xvesa?
How about your card? Forward these specs using Wary's PupSysInfo. |
I don't even get the chance to select Xvesa. I don't see the xorgwizard at all. Boom, straight to black screen.
I'm not familiar with PupSysInfo. Where do I find that?

Hi Fossil,
506MB (220MB used), according to HardInfo.

My main laptop is a 2010 HP Pavilion G6:
* Processor - AMD Phenom(tm) II P960 Quad-Core
* Architecture - x86_64 *64-bit*
* RAM - 6 Gig
* * Hard Drive - 700 Gig
* WiFi /Lan
ANY 64-bit Puppy I try with USB stick works and works well.
My little computer is a 2009 HP MINI 210-1000 NETBOOK:
* Processor - Intel Atom
* Architecture - i686 *64-bit*
* RAM - maxed out at 2 Gig
* Hard Drive - 230 GB
* WiFi /Lan
I have Slacko64 Puppy 6.9.5 frugal installed to the hard drive. Also I have a USB stick with:
Every other latest release of Puppies for 64 bit that I could find EXCEPT FatDog64 which is the only one that cannot detect my wifi card. All works as it should.
EDIT (update below)
As of spring 2017 the above computers have found new owners and now my only laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad W510
* Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz
* Architecture - x86_64 *64-bit*
* RAM - 8 Gig
* * Hard Drive - 500 Gig
* WiFi /Lan
ANY 64-bit Puppy I try with USB stick works and works well except for Fatdog64-700 and newer which cannot detect my wifi card

Acquired an HP Pavilion zv6000, XP, 1GB RAM, AMD64 (Athlon64, 3500+ -- I think it's 2.2 GHz).
Got a kernel panic using SuperLupu1. SuperLupu2 came right up (though the built in wireless sometimes comes up, sometimes can't be found -- that might just be an HP issue, it is an old machine).
Dragged my save file from my Sulu1 machine, and dropped it here.
If this works well enough, I might look into upgrading it to 2GB RAM (apparently the max it will handle).

With that specs I would stick with Wary 5.5 which you have been using although even Wary will be slightly slower than it should be. You will also struggle to get a newer browser to perform adequately. The Seamonkey browser which comes with that version or older Opera version 12 should be best.

Thanks... I sometimes get distracted with other things. Was digging on some ongoing problems -- though Palemoon cured one of them...

Asus UX51VZ |

Here is what eventually worked for me on the Asus UX51VZ (refer to this thread).
1) burn a flashdrive with the iso (Xenial64 and Slacko 6.3-64 both worked) using Rufus. Use "MBR partition scheme for BIOS and UEFI" option, file system FAT32 and "Create a bootable disk using ISO image". Press start and if prompted, stay with the ISO option (no need for dd).
2) access the UEFI BIOS (Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10 -> troubleshooting)
2a) disable secure boot and fast boot
2b) enable CSM (legacy BIOS boot)
3) Reboot in Windows 10
4) Go to Advanced Startup options again, but this time select "use device". You should get a UEFI option and a "hard drive" option. SELECT THE HARD DRIVE OPTION, not UEFI. This will boot your usb in legacy BIOS mode
5) Enjoy Puppy
I never managed to get UEFI to work, but so be it...

My experiences so far All frugal install and basic usage:
Hp nc8430 Intel Core Duo T2500 2GHz Total RAM: 2 GB
with ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 - 256 MB (makes me angry due to heat needs tweak for low performance every puppy)
What works out of the box:
LxPupSc_17.04.1
lxtahr_15.05
slacko_6.3.2
stretch_7.5
Hp nx6110 Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.73GHz Total RAM: 740 MB
What works out of the box:
LxPupSc_17.04.1
slacko_5.7.1
slacko_6.3.2
lxtahr_15.05 needs sound tweak
IBMR30 processor 1GHz Total RAM: 256 MB old, deathproof, I really like this laptop
What works out of the box:
puppy 4.3.1
slacko-5.6
Sadly not many recent messages in this topic.
Please sent more recent raports which newer puppy works on what older laptop. Would be helpful for less experienced pepole (like me) when buying used laptop.

Compaq Presario 2200 laptop (circa 2003)
32-bit 1.3 GHz Celeron M (nopae; has SSE and SSE2)
Distros that are "PAE-only" will run if I use the "forcepae" kernel option
1 GB RAM, 40 GB hard disk
Broadcom BCM4306 wireless
This is my "guinea pig" system and has run nearly everything I've thrown at it. Recent stuff that I've run successfully on it:
UPup Bionic Beaver 18.05+13
XenialPup CE 7.5
Dpup Stretch 7.5 RC3
Sailor E's Slacko 5.7 WoofCE
TahrPup 6.0.6
