@LazYPuppy:-

Let me get this straight.

Do I take it that what kiramm is after is an SFS package, containing WINE and a number of Adobe programs, set-up in such a way that when it's loaded, all he needs to do is go to the Menu, click on the appropriate entry.....and it'll just start?

I'm getting just a teeny bit confused with all these 'ere shenanigans goin' on.....

I mean, I agree with the guy about the CS2 suite; I run Photoshop myself. Despite its age, it's still immensely powerful software for the casual home user. But if you add together, say, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign (like M$ Publisher), and WINE, you're looking at nearly 2 GB.....and that's just for the .exe installers. That is going to be one humungous package by the time you're finished; I've never worked out what the installed size of Photoshop is, but you can say at least 50% bigger. You'd be looking at an SFS of somewhere in the region of 3 GB, when installed.

I hope he's got lots of RAM.

@kiramm:- Thanks for the link to the CS2 page, by the way!

Yes, at least that's how I did understand it.

Besides the size of such resulting package, I think it can't be done for another reason. Being allowed to download proprietary software for free doesn't mean one is allowed to redistribute it. I don't want to redistribute Adobe programs - even not if they would allow it to me.

So, my thoughts just were about trying to install Illustrator successfully into a Wine version, publishing just this version of Wine in .sfs module and trying to give a little advise on how to install Illustrator into that Wine version.

I'd tried already to install Illustrator into Wine, though it didn't work. Installation was successful so far, though executing the program complains some missing stuff. Tried it under Wine 1.3.13 (gecko installed) and 1.8.1-2.2 (gecko and mono installed), which are the versions I have locally existing.

Since kiramm (he/she?) is not willing or able to tell me which version of Wine he wants to use, I'm not able to download another version of Wine.

Just don't want to download all the Wine versions made by version2013 (just forgot his previous user name meanwhile), and to test them for Illustrator. I may not be lazy for real when being LazY Puppy, though this would crash my amount of time heavily.

Hi, LazY.

greendome, of course...!

Well, for a tip, give version2013's 1.7.51 a try; that's the version I run Photoshop CS2 under. There's two things you need to add, and you can get them through WineTricks.

vcrun6 (the Visual C++6 runtime libraries; that's what Photoshop uses, and since Illustrator CS2 was built at the same time, it's a fair bet it'll want the same).

You also need the 'corefonts' package. Without this, Photoshop launches just the once.....then after that it refuses. Doesn't want to know.

Entirely up to you, of course. But that's what I'd give a try first.

https://version2013.yolasite.com/page1.php#wine-1.7.51

Version 2.1, that's the specific version I use.

Edit:- Just checked the WineHQ database CS2 has the 'garbage' rating, apparently. CS6, however, has the gold rating.....

Hm. Interesting.

InDesign CS2 has the 'Gold' rating. I've been looking for an M$ Publisher replacement; I can't get on with Scribus. I might give this a go.

I've already d/l'd it. Let's give this a try....

Hi, Lazy.

Quicker to send 'em to you. It's this lot:-

https://www.datafilehost.com/d/db3d76ea

Unpack 'em, and stick 'em in ~/.wine/drive_c/Windows/Fonts. Easier than explaining how to get the WineTricks GUI up-and-running; I've got to go out shortly, and won't be back till tomorrow..

After installing the wine package for testings and adding the corefonts to wine, the winetricks didn't do anything for me. Chosen to install an App, they asked me ???, i confirmed, and then: nothing. Also for the other options in winetricks: nothing.

No vcrun6, so Illustrator still won't start.

Hi, LazY.

That's because you need zenity and cab-extract for WineTricks to work properly.....plus a modified version of Winetricks itself. D'l, and install these, in this order:-

http://www.mediafire.com/file/b2ni971nc ... d-i486.pet

http://www.mediafire.com/file/uy6nwlskl ... 110523.pet

http://www.mediafire.com/file/3vp9p4y3t ... .09.12.pet

...then give it another shot. Version2013 always includes Winetricks.....but only as command-line. The official version of Winetricks doesn't work, because the included zenity is broken.....and that's what gives you the GUI. This 'patched' version fixes it.

Let me know how you get on with it now.

@kiramm Kiramm. Please STOP posting those long text comments in the 'Descriptions' box. It is totally unnecessary. This stretches the whole page across two monitor widths. Which makes reading any long series of comments impossible.
Furthermore, images are restricted - for good reason - to 800 pixels wide.
Are you a child?
Please. Have some thought for other forum users. Edit it.

Are you a child?
Good question.

Tonight I thought about asking him/her if this is his/her first birthday ever?

Come on, kiramm: let us know how old are you and from what country of origin are you?

Thanks

P.S.

And by the way: do you need a new keyboard?

Edit:

A kind user sent me a link (by PM) to make me a littler smarter to know about what LICK is. So, it's just a installer to install Puppy Linux when running Windows.

So, I imagine the wineLICKinstaller you want to have would be something that installs the Adobe GoldLevel Programs into a .sfs module.

That's of course something I can't do, as I'm not a that smart developer. Also I don't run Windows anymore at home, so i couldn't do any testings at all.

Note:

All I can do and what I'm trying to do, is to try to install Adobe Illustrator into Wine and to check if it will work after installing. If successful I can publish that version of Wine to download as .sfs module and to give a short description of what I'd done to achieve this.

Though, I can NOT create a simple installer that will download and install the Adobe GoldLevel programs into a Wine .sfs for some instant use.

@Mike Walsh

Ok, now I got a list of programs to install in winetricks.

Though, what do I need to install to get vcrun6 (the Visual C++6 runtime libraries). There's just something like Visual C++ 2005 and 2008.

Hi, LazY.

That's the only one you need; "vcrun6 Visual C++ sp4 libraries (mfc42, msvcp60, msvcirt)". You may also need to install Gecko, but it's usually installed by WINE on first configuration, when you run /usr/(s)bin/winecfg for the first time. It usually complains about not finding Mono first (the WINE Project's version of the .Net Framework), and d/ls and installs that.....and then says it can't find Gecko (and d/ls and installs that, too.)

Read through my tutorial on Photoshop CS2, here:-

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=101895

It gives full details for exactly how to install and use 'Winetricks', and what you need to use Winetricks for, etc.

Ok,

all steps properly execute. Installation of Illustrator successful.

Executing Illustrator crashes, as it complains:

- missing plugins
- error occured

I'm sorry for kiramm, though I'll give up, as I'm not really in the need to have Illustrator running in Wine.

Maybe I'll give Photoshop CS2 a go...

By the way, Mike, thanks for all that info on Wine. Never used winetricks and so I didn't know anything about the stuff available for Wine. Will keep an eye on it.

Just downloaded and installed Photoshop CS2 into the current made Wine installation. Seems to work out of the box.

It's a bit annoying, that some sub-windows (incl. the image-window) of Photoshop appearing behind the main window of Photoshop repeatedly.

Don't think that's stuff I want to keep.

Though, thanks for the clear manual on how to install Photoshop CS2. Everyone should be able to install Photoshop CS2 by the your manual...
