What would you like as Puppy

#41 Post by Pelo »

:evil: slim x, slim; thin. Puppy Builders give users their Puppies to test..
A long time ago, Puppies were released on the forum for public usage.
Generally, in productivity system, first users are asked what they need, and then developers try to satisfy them . World in puppy seems to go upside down !
Merci à X-Slacko Slim to question us and trying to satisfy users, even with trimming the fat. I wanted to underline that.
What would you like as Puppy ? it's so rare you ask the question, dear linux students.

Who, me? I just came up with a specific devx for slim_6. Nothing more.
What are you talking about, moeppyfan? I don't understand.

Oh, I see what you mean now. :)

The window manager I use now in Slim_6 is: wmx
-- port & cornsilk themed version is here
-- if you're serious about wmx, may I suggest that you start looking here and
follow that thread.

At the top, in the middle, you see: conky, with a 2-liner config file.

At the top right: a colorized rclock, from the old rxvt package -- Please see attached.

At the left is a: rox panel -- A sample left-side rox panel is also attached,
WHICH YOU WILL HAVE TO ADAPT TO YOUR NEEDS!

At the bottom I have: the beautiful and efficient bmpanel2, with its "Light T" theme.
(wmx does not have a panel or tray, so one has to be provided separately.)
-- You can download an archive of it through here.

If you want more info on this, just ask! :)

P.S. -- For now that'll do (plus the conky link quoted by moeppyfan two posts
below this one). Maybe in the not too distant future I'll try to put everything in a
"makeover" package that people can download.

Hello moeppyfan.

I just updated my post above to include some URLS for downloading and/or explaining
the various components of my makeover.

What's left is the conky component. Back with that one later.

Bye for now.

Thanks Musher! That was an entertaining list of puzzles to unravel! :) I had no idea you were a windows manager Wizard.

Seeing as your other tricks were in existing links, I kept going and found your last url on my own ;)
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=889310#889310

The only other things I had to do after (I think) was:

Code: Select all

ln -s /usr/lib/libncurses.so.5 /usr/lib/libtinfo.so.5
conky -c /root/.conky-2lignes-wmx3
After all that fun, I got so used to wmx that when I used jwm again I automatically tried closing from the left corner. :lol:

Thanks for saving me the trouble of finding that conky link again, moeppyfan!
Yep, that's the one!

I'm glad you like wmx. It's not a the prettiest wm, with its square corners,
but it's certainly one of the most efficient ! (IMO)

Anything else, just drop me a line !

(And thanks for the compliment! ;) )

Have you got a screenie of your new baby ? :)

where to get a claws-mail for Slim Slacko 6?

#49 Post by sheldonisaac »

I have started using Slim Slacko 6.
Where can I get a claws-mail which works?

I tried various claws-mail_3.8*, missing libraries?

Thank you,
Sheldon Isaac

Hi Sheldon Isaac.

Thanks for your interest in Slim6.

I hope ninaholic will get back on the forum sometime.
Meanwhile, I'm sorry for not being able to help you much on this:
I'm a fan of webmails, myself...

As to missing libs, it's sort of to be expected on a trimmed down
Puppy like this.

When I have a minute, I'll try to compile your Claws-Mail app on Slim6
and see what I can come up with.

Hello Sheldon Isaac.

First, please download and install the libetpan library from here:
http://download.salixos.org/i486/14.1/s ... 86-1gv.txz
AND the db48 library from here:
http://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/slackw ... i486-2.txz

(Those two libraries allow ClawsMail to fetch IMAP4 e-mail and NNTP news
in addition to POP3 e-mail.)

As to the compilation of ClawsMail-3.14.0, this is its configuration report:

/usr/bin/ginstall -c -m 644 vcal_interface.h '/mnt/home/ClawsMail-3.14.0/usr/include/claws-mail/plugins/vcalendar' "
To be frank I don't know what to make of it. Maybe a more advanced Puppy dev can explain.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here are the ClawsMail-3.14.0 packages that I compiled:
ClawsMail-3.14.0.sfs -- main (does not contain the locales)
Please download from: https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code ... L8mmJRk33V
md5sum: 5134080d273b5178407605f00f26fc3c ClawsMail-3.14.0_6.sfs
OR, if you prefer to install pet archives:
ClawsMail-3.14.0.pet -- main (comes with English and French locales only)
Please download from: https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code ... 2O6X3yP0TX
md5sum: ad88dbd2cf75ed24ddc6223d2dead15a ClawsMail-3.14.0.pet
ClawsMail-3.14.0_NLS.pet -- full complement of locale files, if needed
Please download from: https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code ... MPYpMtfJc7
md5sum: 6c69739cea2a4932567e236f66dc2706 ClawsMail-3.14.0_NLS.pet
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As I mentioned in my previous message, I don't use a regular e-mail account, I prefer
webmails. So I couldn't test any account from ClawsMail. That said, I did test most items
of the interface, including the Help, and they seemed to work fine.

The rest of the testing will be up to you, I guess. Good luck.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Any feedback welcome. I'll see if I can improve on any shortcomings in the compilation.
BFN.
musher0, the sfs works very well.
I am most grateful to you.
And I'm very impressed that you found the things that help it to work, and did the compiling!
Thanks again,
Sheldon
Hello all.
There seems to be a problem creating additional pupsave files in Slim 6
from the desktop using the script shutdownconfig. Please see the
discussion starting here. (From middle of p. 1 to top of p. 2 of that thread.)
However creation of a new pupsave file
-- from the initial black console
-- for a pristine Slim 6
worked fine.
If you need further explanations or instructions, please ask below.
Thanks. IHTH.
