Scrolling LED 'message-bars' for your signature ...

#1 Post by Mike Walsh »

Morning, all.

In case anybody's noticed, my siggy has once again had a 'makeover'. The link for the scrolling message bar incorporated into it I got from one of the forum staff members over at BleepingComputer.com. It's quite nifty!

For anyone who's interested, you can generate your own, personalised 'message-bar' here:-

http://wigflip.com/signbot/

For a how-to on incorporating a GIF image into a PNG or JPEG one, this video from 'GIMP-Toots' over at YouTube explains how it's done:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnwFBx5hkv0

If you want to resize the bar itself before embedding it into another image, this site will do the job brilliantly:-

http://ezgif.com/resize

You'll need to experiment with the settings; I find it's best done as a percentage, and the 'Aspect Ratio' setting works best with 'Force original aspect ratio'.

Anyway, that's enough from me. Over to y'all now, and....have fun!

Enjoy.

Mike.

Hi, ETP.

Can't see it, mate. There's nothing showing. What are you trying to display it from? Imgur? Photobucket?

As far as I can tell, it's got to be embedded using the 'img' BBcode; it won't show up otherwise.

Like this:-

(Come to that, your logo ain't showing up, neither...)

You might be interested in this one, too...

In fact, there's a whole bunch of interesting animated stuff on there. All written in LISP!

(BTW:- I did see what it was. I had to upload to my Google Drive, then it would display. Your source link doesn't display, either...)

There you go!

Hi Mike,
Thanks for minifesto also. Not seeing my avatar or the gif would suggest a
brief network disruption either at postimage.org or at your end.
I can view both in Chrome, Firefox, Palemoon & Chromium.

If they are still not visible to you it may be Coffee related !

Mike, is your new logo meant to scroll? If so, I can't see it. The reason is, I find all that sort of 'stuff' simply irritating and a distraction, so use a .gif scroll blocker or a 'tweak' in about:config to turn 'em off. Sorry, but that's how the animated.gif shouldn't roll!

It is indeed, me ol' mucker! If you've turned it off in about:config (hell! another blasted Mozilla-ite... :D ), then in all honesty you're missing the wondrous, intentional effects...!

Actually, since being given the link for the site the night before last, I've been hard at work with the EZI-Gif.com Gif-editing site & the GIMP. Expect to see frequent changes to my sig over the next few weeks, until I find something I'm finally happy with.

It's all a bit o' fun, when it boils down to it, mate. Don't be such an old 'stick-in-the-mud'..... :D :D

Nice to see ya back, anyroad. Stick around!

Jeez, Louise...

Sorry to hear you've gone down wi' a touch of the 'seasonals' again; that's bad news, that is. Hope you're better soon, mate.

I also remember you telling me about the, ah, drainage problems with your domicile... Doesn't help, of course!

Ah, well. All we can do is 'soldier on...'

Get well soon.
